In a bold move redefining affordable luxury in the American skies, Breeze Airways continues its rapid expansion with the introduction of its Airbus A220 premium cabin. The airline, headquartered in Salt Lake City, first made headlines with its Tampa–Charleston route operated by Embraer 195s. Now, with the A220 joining the fleet, Breeze significantly broadens its reach across the eastern United States and beyond.
Emulating innovative peers such as JetBlue and Spirit, Breeze has introduced a domestic First Class offering with a 2 + 2 seat layout. The carrier has committed to a steady influx of brand-new A220s—receiving one each month—on track to operate a network of over 60 jets by 2026. This ambitious fleet growth positions Breeze as a formidable player among US carriers prioritizing direct, mid-market routes.
The flagship “Nicest” cabin features state-of-the-art Safran Z600 seating, delivering elevated comfort with an advanced ergonomic structure. Complementing this, Breeze offers “Nice” and “Nicer”—economy and premium economy products—ensuring a tailored experience for every traveler.
While precise seat pitch for the Z600 remains proprietary, Safran touts a unique ‘cradling motion’ design, which allows for deeper recline without encroaching on the passenger behind—a 50% reduction in space intrusion compared to traditional recliners. Each seat is equipped with both universal power outlets and USB-C ports, catering to the modern traveler’s connectivity needs.
David Neeleman, Breeze’s visionary CEO—renowned for launching JetBlue and Azul—brings his signature focus on guest experience and operational efficiency. While Breeze has yet to confirm full details of its premium inflight service, expectations are high for hot meal offerings and a curated beverage selection in the “Nicest” cabin. True to Neeleman’s penchant for blue, the cabin ambiance is both calming and contemporary, echoing his previous successful ventures.
As of mid-2025, Breeze connects 28 mid-sized US cities, stretching from Oklahoma City to New Orleans and from Columbus to Akron, with further expansion planned as the A220 fleet grows. The airline exclusively operates non-stop flights, strategically deploying the A220 on sectors exceeding two hours while continuing to utilize Embraer jets for shorter regional missions.
At launch, Neeleman shared, "With JetBlue, we reintroduced hospitality to air travel. With Breeze, we're proud to elevate that promise as the 'World's Nicest Airline.'"
Whether Breeze’s blend of genuine service and competitive fares can truly redefine premium domestic flying is a question the discerning US traveler will answer—but early indicators suggest a promising future for this innovative airline.
