SWISS unveils its new Premium Economy Class

SWISS, Switzerland’s flagship carrier, has unveiled its refined Premium Economy Class, now available across its Boeing 777-300ER fleet. This all-new travel class delivers an elevated inflight experience, featuring upgraded seating, curated culinary offerings, expanded baggage privileges, expedited boarding, and an eco-conscious amenity kit.

While Premium Economy has been a staple in global aviation since EVA Air’s pioneering debut in the early 1990s, SWISS has only recently embraced this intermediate cabin, responding to the modern traveler’s preference for superior comfort and personalized service.

“With the introduction of our new Premium Economy Class, we are addressing our guests’ increasing demand for enhanced privacy, comfort, and bespoke experiences,” shares SWISS CEO Dieter Vranckx. “This addition strengthens our commitment to premium quality, especially for the discerning leisure segment.”

All twelve SWISS Boeing 777-300ER aircraft have now been fitted with a dedicated Premium Economy cabin, each offering 24 seats. The airline completed this retrofit in early 2023, ensuring consistency across all long-haul routes operated by this aircraft type.

The seat—engineered in Germany and upholstered with Swiss-made fabric—reclines smoothly within a fixed shell, maintaining privacy and space. Measuring between 46 and 48 centimeters (approx. 18–19 inches) wide, it offers noticeably more width than standard Economy seats. The pitch has been expanded to 99 centimeters (approx. 39 inches), compared to Economy’s 78.7 centimeters (approx. 31 inches). Enhanced legroom, a fold-out leg rest, individual 15.6-inch HD entertainment screens with active noise-canceling headphones, and personal USB charging ports all contribute to a superior journey. Each guest receives a thoughtfully designed amenity kit made from sustainable materials, reflecting SWISS’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

SWISS has crafted a distinct inflight dining experience for Premium Economy. Guests are welcomed with a refreshing elderflower aperitif, followed by a choice of three main courses. Options include a signature dish from the award-winning SWISS Taste of Switzerland program and a vegetarian entrée curated by Zürich’s legendary Hiltl restaurant, renowned as the world’s oldest vegetarian establishment.

Premium Economy travelers benefit from an increased baggage allowance—two checked bags of up to 23 kilograms each, twice the standard allowance in Economy. Priority boarding is also included, ensuring a seamless airport experience.

Fares for Premium Economy are typically €230–320 higher than Economy Class, in line with prevailing industry standards for this elevated cabin.

The Premium Economy cabin is available to book on all SWISS Boeing 777-300ER routes, serving major destinations including Bangkok, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Miami, San Francisco, São Paulo, and Singapore.
