American Airlines has officially transitioned from serving traditional Champagne to offering Ferrari Brut, a highly regarded Italian sparkling wine, for its Business and First Class guests. This strategic decision, reflecting broader trends in premium airline beverage curation, has sparked conversation among frequent flyers and luxury travel experts alike.
Ferrari Brut, crafted exclusively from Chardonnay grapes in Trentino using the Metodo Classico (the same labor-intensive method as Champagne), is praised for its finesse and vibrant character. However, it does not carry the prestigious AOC designation or the brand cachet of the Bollinger La Grande Année 2008 Champagne previously available on American Airlines’ premium wine list.
American Airlines is not alone in reevaluating its wine offerings. Earlier, Finnair discontinued Champagne service on short-haul Business Class routes but retained Joseph Perrier Cuvée Royale Brut Champagne for long-haul travelers. Instead, short-haul premium passengers now enjoy Bernard-Massard Cuvée de l’Ecusson from Luxembourg, an elegant blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling.
