Air China, the flagship carrier of China based in Beijing, has introduced a sophisticated new Business Class offering aboard its Airbus A350-900 fleet. This state-of-the-art product, crafted by acclaimed German seat manufacturer Recaro, delivers a refined “mini-suite” environment for discerning travelers—although the much-anticipated privacy doors have not been included in the current design.
As a proud member of Star Alliance, Air China is progressively retrofitting its twenty A350-900 aircraft with these next-generation Recaro seats. While previous A350 Business Class cabins featured the Super Diamond model, the latest Recaro seat offers a lighter, more fuel-efficient solution. According to Recaro, this model ranks among the lightest full-flat Business Class seats available, supporting both operational sustainability and passenger comfort. The mini-suite design is door-ready, but Air China has chosen to prioritize an open, airy layout for now.
Recaro highlights that the “mini-suite” ambiance is achieved through superior materials, refined finishes, and atmospheric lighting. The seat’s advanced ergonomic features include multiple reclining positions, a six-way adjustable headrest, industry-leading foam cushioning, and a fully flat bed stretching to 1.98 meters. The A350-900’s Business Class cabin is arranged in a staggered 1-2-1 layout, ensuring direct aisle access for every guest.
Since their introduction in 2018, Air China’s A350s have been deployed on flagship international routes such as Beijing to London, Frankfurt, and Milan, as well as key domestic services like Beijing–Shanghai. As of 2025, Air China has not formally announced which routes will exclusively feature the updated mini-suite Business Class configuration.
On these advanced A350-900s, the airline offers 32 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone arrangement, complemented by 24 Premium Economy seats (2-4-2), and over 250 seats in Economy Class. This cabin design reflects global trends toward privacy, space, and comfort in premium travel.
Beyond the A350, Air China also operates Boeing 747-8 and 777-300ER aircraft—both still utilizing a 2-2-2 Business Class layout, which is now considered less competitive compared to the industry’s leading 1-2-1 configurations.
