Air India - New Business and Premium Economy Cabins for A320 Fleet

Air India has officially launched a sophisticated three-cabin layout on its modernized A320neo aircraft, redefining the premium travel experience for both domestic and regional international routes. This newly introduced configuration now features Business Class, a brand-new Premium Economy, and classic Economy, setting a new standard for narrowbody travel in India.

The upgraded A320neo jets accommodate 164 guests, including 8 exclusive seats in Business Class and an expanded Premium Economy section that offers generous legroom. This marks Air India’s inaugural Premium Economy offering on its single-aisle fleet, a milestone for the airline’s product evolution.

Each cabin is thoughtfully designed with contemporary comforts: ambient mood lighting, ample personal space, ergonomic seating, and advanced technology such as Portable Electronic Device (PED) holders and universal USB charging ports for seamless connectivity.

Business Class Enhancements: The reimagined Business Class features 40-inch pitch seats with a deep 7-inch recline, adjustable armrests, footrests, and backrests, plus multiple power outlets. The elegantly engineered tray tables—equipped with PED stands—extend smoothly at the press of a button for convenience.

Premium Economy Upgrades: The Premium Economy cabin offers plush, wider seats with enhanced cushioning, a four-way adjustable headrest, 32-inch seat pitch, and a 4-inch recline. Thoughtful amenities, such as PED holders and USB charging, are complemented by gourmet meal service presented on premium tableware for a refined inflight dining experience.

Throughout 2025, Air India is rolling out this three-class design across its entire A320neo fleet. Existing aircraft are being systematically retrofitted, while new deliveries arrive with these advanced interiors pre-installed, ensuring a consistent and elevated experience fleetwide.

Air India CEO & Managing Director Campbell Wilson commented, “Introducing a three-cabin configuration to our narrowbody aircraft and initiating comprehensive cabin upgrades are pivotal steps in delivering an exceptional travel experience. These enhancements, which now extend across our domestic and short-haul international network, perfectly complement the next-generation comfort already available on our A350s, new B777s, and the ongoing widebody refits. This transformation is central to our ambition of becoming a truly world-class airline.”

All seat designs, crafted in partnership with Collins Aerospace, integrate advanced ergonomic contours and a patented comfort system for superior passenger support. Features include intuitive literature pockets, accessible charging points, sturdy tray tables, and coat hooks. The A320neo’s innovative mood lighting system offers tailored settings for takeoff, landing, meal times, and even illuminates specially to mark national celebrations—creating a calming, immersive onboard atmosphere.
