Air India has ushered in a new chapter in its international operations with the introduction of the state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 on the Delhi to Dubai route.
On May 1st, at 20:45, the inaugural A350-900 flight departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), touching down in Dubai at 22:45 before returning to Delhi later that night. This marks the first time Air India’s latest widebody flagship has operated internationally, replacing the usual Boeing 787-8 for this route and signaling a strategic shift in the carrier’s fleet deployment.
The A350-900 features a refined three-class layout, accommodating 316 guests: 28 Business Class suites with fully flat beds, 24 Premium Economy seats designed for enhanced comfort, and an elegant Economy cabin.
As of mid-2025, Air India operates four Airbus A350-900s, with additional deliveries scheduled throughout the year as part of the airline’s historic 20-aircraft order. The first A350-900 entered commercial service in January and quickly became the backbone of Air India’s premium offering. The airline continues to rotate these next-generation aircraft on both domestic and international routes as crew experience increases, with plans to deploy the A350-900 on longer-haul sectors in the near future.
During our assessment, the A350-900 stood out for its exceptional cabin ambiance, advanced air filtration, and whisper-quiet ride, all of which elevate the onboard experience for discerning travelers.
