Air New Zealand’s highly anticipated fleet of next-generation Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, delivered in late 2024, sets a new standard for Business Class luxury and rest. The airline’s third iteration of the Dreamliner, internally known as the 787-9 ‘Code 3’, features 42 Business Premier Suites across two cabins and introduces four ultra-private Business Premier Luxe Suites—each designed for the ultimate in-flight sleep experience. Travellers in Premium Economy benefit from a fully refreshed 52-seat cabin, while Economy passengers can now enjoy the world’s first lie-flat Skynest bunks for genuine rest on long-haul journeys.
These state-of-the-art Dreamliners are meticulously tailored for Air New Zealand’s ultra-long-haul non-stop routes between Auckland and key US cities including New York, Houston, and Chicago. The aircraft configuration prioritizes spaciousness and premium seating, with fewer total seats but significantly more room and amenities for those seeking rest and rejuvenation mid-flight.
Business Premier Suites are equipped with Safran’s latest seats in a 1-2-1 layout. The first row houses four exclusive Business Premier Luxe Suites, each offering a private sanctuary with sliding doors, a generously sized ottoman, an expansive table for companion dining, and refined luxury bedding.
Each Business Premier Suite is designed for privacy and tranquility, featuring sliding panels, a self-controlled lie-flat bed with plush memory foam mattresses and feather pillows, abundant storage, USB-A, USB-C, and AC charging ports, a 24-inch (61 cm) high-definition entertainment screen, wireless device charging, and Bluetooth headphone connectivity. Window suites are subtly angled for personal space, while center pairs are ideal for couples or colleagues traveling together.
The cabin’s ambiance is enhanced by mood lighting and a design inspired by New Zealand’s tūī bird, promoting a restful atmosphere. The innovative sleep wellness program includes calming herbal teas, sleep balms, mindfulness content, nutritious meal options, and breathable, natural-fiber linens for a restorative journey.
Air New Zealand’s flagship Auckland–New York service remains one of the world’s longest flights, covering over 8,800 miles (14,200 km) in approximately 17 hours and 50 minutes nonstop.
