Finnair is reinforcing its leadership in sustainable aviation by unveiling a suite of advanced initiatives designed to significantly reduce its environmental impact, both inflight and across ground operations.
In a decisive move, the carrier has procured 1,000 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for use on select flights departing from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. This new SAF supply—expected to be fully integrated into scheduled routes this year—will power approximately 500 roundtrips between Helsinki and Stockholm with undiluted, 100% SAF. Importantly, a dedicated portion of each ticket’s cost now directly supports Finnair’s ongoing investment in sustainable fuel solutions, ensuring passengers actively contribute to a greener journey.
Travelers can also participate in emission reduction through Finnair’s enhanced carbon offset program, which now seamlessly combines certified offset projects with additional SAF purchases. In 2025, the airline’s ground fleet saw the arrival of 120 new electric vehicles, including custom Volkswagen ID.Buzz electric vans, bringing the share of electric vehicles in its ground operations to over 50%—a significant leap toward carbon-neutral airport services.
Onboard, Finnair continues its eco-conscious approach: Business Class and Premium Economy guests are now offered sustainable amenities, such as bamboo toothbrushes and natural mint toothpaste, available upon request to minimize waste.
