flydubai - Australia and London bound?

flydubai, the dynamic low-cost carrier under the Emirates Group umbrella, is actively pursuing service expansion to Australia and London, targeting launch dates within the next two years. The realization of these routes hinges on the delivery of its anticipated fleet of 30 Boeing 787-900 Dreamliners, which will significantly boost the airline’s long-haul capabilities. The airline has also signaled interest in adding popular Asian destinations such as Bangkok to its growing network.

Fully owned by the Emirati government, flydubai operates in close partnership with Emirates, sharing both the Chairman and the loyalty program, Skywards, for seamless passenger benefits across both airlines.

At present, flydubai’s modern fleet is comprised exclusively of Boeing 737 aircraft, featuring a Business Class product that offers lie-flat beds on select long-haul routes and comfortable recliner seats on medium-haul journeys. Destinations currently served include Malaysia, India, the Maldives, Italy, Greece, Switzerland, the Middle East, and Africa, with a network spanning over 110 cities worldwide.

The impending arrival of the Boeing 787-900s will unlock longer-range flights and provide the opportunity to introduce a dedicated premium economy cabin—catering to evolving passenger expectations for comfort and value.

Nevertheless, given ongoing manufacturing delays at Boeing, flydubai’s inaugural flights to Australia are unlikely to launch before late 2026. Meanwhile, travelers from the region continue to enjoy premium connectivity with Emirates, Etihad, and Qatar Airways, while Riyadh Air is expected to enter the Australian market by mid-2025.

With a fleet now exceeding 80 aircraft, flydubai’s reputation as a “low-cost” airline belies its premium Business Class experience, which rivals traditional full-service carriers. Passengers can enjoy amenities such as exclusive lounges at select airports, priority check-in, and expedited security screening.
