Exciting developments are underway for discerning travelers: ITA Airways, Italy’s premier airline, has now received full approval from European regulators to integrate into the Lufthansa Group. Established in 2020 following the closure of Alitalia, ITA Airways has rapidly become a central player in European aviation.
With the final regulatory green light, ITA Airways is set to be officially welcomed into the Lufthansa Group this year, marking a new era for Italian aviation.

We’re eager to embrace ITA Airways and its dedicated team as an integral part of our group in the coming months."
Once the integration is finalized, ITA Airways will become the fifth full-service carrier within the Lufthansa Group’s expansive network, joining the ranks of Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, Eurowings, and Brussels Airlines. Importantly, ITA Airways will maintain its distinctive brand identity.
Loyalty program members will see immediate benefits: ITA’s "Volare" members will be able to earn and redeem miles through the renowned Miles & More program from day one of integration. Reciprocal lounge access across the group’s premium lounges will also be available. Plans are in motion for ITA Airways to join Star Alliance in the near future, further expanding global connectivity for frequent flyers.
Headquartered in Rome, ITA Airways transported nearly 15 million passengers last year and operates a state-of-the-art fleet of 96 Airbus aircraft, including 23 long-haul and 73 short- and medium-haul jets. The airline currently serves 69 global destinations, with continued growth expected under the new partnership.
