Jetstar Airways, the renowned Australian low-cost carrier under the Qantas Group, has revealed an ambitious upgrade program for its Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet, set to deliver a premium leap in passenger comfort and onboard amenities.
Based in Melbourne, Jetstar is expanding its Business Class offering in direct response to increasing demand for elevated travel experiences. The premium cabin will nearly double in size, growing from 21 to 44 seats, each featuring contemporary ergonomic enhancements. Travelers will also benefit from the introduction of in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity and newly designed crew rest facilities, enabling Jetstar to serve longer international routes. These advancements open the door to new destinations such as India and Sri Lanka, made possible by the extended range capabilities.
Every seat across the Dreamliner fleet is being replaced with state-of-the-art RECARO ergonomic models. The new Business Class seats offer generous recline and integrated power outlets, although they do not convert to fully flat beds. To accommodate these upgrades, the overall passenger capacity per aircraft will decrease slightly, ensuring optimal comfort for all guests.
Jetstar’s sustainability strategy is also front and center: the Boeing 787’s advanced technology achieves up to 25% lower fuel burn and carbon emissions compared to legacy jets. Weight-saving initiatives include removing traditional seatback screens in favor of wireless streaming to personal devices, installing lighter seat frames, and applying a refreshed livery that harmonizes with the latest Airbus A321neo LR designs.
The investment in each aircraft is significant, with the comprehensive refit scheduled to commence during routine maintenance cycles from late 2025 onward.
