KLM allows Crew to wear sneakers

From May 6th, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has officially incorporated sneakers into its cabin crew uniform options, prioritizing both comfort and employee wellness. The airline now permits crew members to select approved sneakers of their choice—provided they adhere to specific style and safety guidelines—or opt for the exclusive KLM sneaker, crafted in collaboration with renowned Dutch designer Filling Pieces.

This progressive move aligns KLM with a growing aviation industry trend toward more ergonomic and health-conscious attire for flight attendants. Over the past year, the airline conducted a comprehensive trial, gathering feedback that overwhelmingly highlighted reduced fatigue and improved morale among crew members when wearing sneakers during long-haul and short-haul flights.

Senior Purser Willeke van den Boomgaard shares her experience: “After years of traditional heels, integrating sneakers into our uniform has been a game-changer. Not only do they support my feet throughout demanding shifts, but they also reflect a modern, sustainable approach to our workwear.”
