Lufthansa Group tests Green Fares on long-haul routes

The Lufthansa Group—comprising Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, and SWISS—has elevated its sustainability commitment by introducing Green Fares on selected long-haul journeys, a significant evolution in eco-conscious air travel in 2025.

This exclusive initiative is currently being piloted across twelve carefully chosen intercontinental routes. These connections link the group’s principal European hubs to key cities worldwide, including flagship flights such as Frankfurt to Bengaluru, Zurich to Los Angeles, and Brussels to Kinshasa. Passengers on both direct and connecting itineraries can now select Green Fares, appealing to environmentally aware premium travelers.

Since debuting on intra-European and North African sectors, Green Fares have attracted more than 600,000 discerning flyers who prioritize lower-carbon journeys—an impressive testament to the growing demand for sustainable luxury travel.

The Green Fares offering enables guests to neutralize their entire flight-related CO₂ footprint with a single click. This is achieved through a blend of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—which now delivers a 15% direct emissions reduction—and investments in globally certified carbon offset projects that account for the remaining 85%. These projects are regularly audited to ensure measurable climate impact and align with the latest international standards.

The participating routes include:

  • Zurich – Los Angeles (ZRH – LAX)
  • Frankfurt – Miami (FRA – MIA)
  • Sao Paulo – Zurich (GRU – ZRH)
  • Frankfurt – Bengaluru (FRA – BLR)
  • Munich- Seoul (MUC – ICN)
  • Brussels – Kinshasa (BRU – FIH)
  • Singapore – London (SIN – LHR/LCY)
  • Nairobi – Frankfurt (NBO – FRA)
  • Bangkok – Vienna (BKK – VIE)
  • Hong Kong – London (HKG – LHR/LCY)
