To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Finnair has transformed two of its flagship Airbus A350 aircraft with bespoke Moomin-themed liveries, delighting travelers throughout the centenary year and into 2025. These uniquely painted jets are now operating across Finnair’s intercontinental network, gracing routes such as Dallas, Tokyo, and Bangkok with a touch of Nordic whimsy.
According to Finnair’s CEO, Topi Manner, the beloved Moomin characters embody values of friendship, adventure, and community—principles that resonate deeply with the airline’s mission to connect people and cultures. This creative partnership with the Moomin brand, which dates back to the 1990s, has become an integral part of Finnair’s identity, especially during this milestone celebration.
The Moomin universe, first imagined by Finnish author and illustrator Tove Jansson, features gentle, hippo-like creatures who represent universal themes of acceptance, belonging, and kindness. These ideals, central to Nordic culture, are vividly expressed in the centenary Moomin livery, where the characters’ warm embrace symbolizes unity and togetherness—a fitting tribute for Finnair’s 100 years of bridging continents.
In addition to the Moomin jets, Finnair has emblazoned its anniversary motto, “Bringing us together since 1923,” on three other aircraft, reinforcing the airline’s enduring legacy of global connectivity.
