Qantas restarts New York route in style!

Qantas has officially relaunched its celebrated Sydney to New York route, now operating three times weekly via Auckland, marking a triumphant return to one of its most iconic long-haul journeys since its suspension in 2020. This reinvigorated connection features a seamless transfer in New Zealand before embarking on a direct 17+ hour flight to the heart of Manhattan—providing a sophisticated alternative to the previous routing through Los Angeles.

Business Class guests are treated to a truly elevated experience aboard the state-of-the-art Boeing 787 Dreamliner, renowned for its superior cabin pressure, advanced noise reduction, and expansive windows. The journey is complemented by exclusive amenities, including designer sleepwear, curated amenity kits, and a bespoke inflight dining program crafted by acclaimed chef Neil Perry.

For a limited period, Business Class passengers on the Sydney–Auckland–New York service receive a special edition navy sleeper suit, featuring the iconic Qantas “Roo” alongside Rebecca Vallance’s signature logo. This collector’s item is adorned with the flight numbers “QF3” and “QF4” and an elegant New York-inspired heart motif, reflecting the route’s cosmopolitan flair.

The amenity kit—custom-designed by Rebecca Vallance—includes a coordinated eyeshade and replaces the Koskela kit now used on other international flights. Meanwhile, First Class travelers continue to enjoy Martin Grant’s exclusive pyjamas, underscoring Qantas’ commitment to Australian design excellence.

Neil Perry, Qantas’ Creative Director of Food, Beverage, and Service, has introduced a series of New York-themed dishes to the inflight menu, thoughtfully curated to celebrate the relaunch of this flagship route and to echo the culinary vibrancy of the Big Apple.

Signature New York dishes available in QF3 and QF4 premium cabins include:

  • Classic New York spaghetti and meatballs
  • Traditional Reuben sandwich
  • NY-style bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and fresh lemon
  • General Tso’s chicken with smashed cucumber salad, jasmine rice, and tender broccolini
  • Beef hot dog with sauerkraut and spicy brown mustard
  • Seared beef fillet accompanied by creamed spinach and baked potato with sour cream and chives
  • Pecan pie with crème fraîche
  • New York cheesecake topped with blueberry compote

Throughout June, the Qantas First Lounges in Sydney and Melbourne, along with the Auckland International Lounge, will showcase a rotating New York-inspired dish of the day. Guests can also enjoy signature Manhattan Spritz and Garibaldi cocktails, bringing a taste of New York’s vibrant bar scene to the ground experience.

Looking ahead, Qantas has confirmed plans to introduce a non-stop Sydney–New York service in late 2025, further cementing its status as a leader in ultra-long-haul luxury travel.
