Qantas reveals A350 First Class and Business Class cabins

Qantas, Australia’s premier airline, has officially revealed its highly anticipated First and Business Class suites, set to debut on non-stop flights from Australia to both New York and London beginning in late 2025. This marks a significant milestone in the evolution of ultra-long-haul travel, with Qantas positioning itself at the forefront of luxury and innovation.

Known as Project Sunrise, this ambitious initiative was conceived to connect Australia directly to major global cities without stopovers. Qantas has committed to acquiring twelve state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000ULR aircraft, all scheduled to join the fleet by the end of 2025.

Each A350 will be configured with just 238 seats spanning four cabin classes, underscoring Qantas’ dedication to comfort and exclusivity. Every class will feature bespoke seating crafted to enhance wellbeing and privacy for the world’s longest flights.

The A350’s First Class cabin will consist of six ultra-private suites in a 1-1-1 layout, while Business Class will offer 52 suites in a 1-2-1 arrangement, ensuring direct aisle access for every guest.

Our firsthand experience with the First Class suite revealed an expansive fixed bed, a separate ergonomic recliner, a personal wardrobe, an intimate dining table for two, and a 32-inch ultra-HD display. Discreet sliding doors provide privacy, though they stop short of full floor-to-ceiling enclosures as seen on Emirates’ latest First Class. Customizable lighting, climate, and humidity controls set a new standard for passenger wellness at altitude.

Business Class passengers enjoy private suites with sliding doors, direct aisle access, and a two-metre fully flat bed. Thoughtful touches include ample storage with a vanity mirror, a plush leather ottoman, an 18-inch UHD touchscreen, a generously sized dining table, and ambient feature lighting.

Staying connected is effortless with complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the aircraft. Both First and Business Class suites offer multiple charging solutions, including wireless charging pads for personal devices.

The A350 also introduces Bluetooth audio pairing for all passengers, enabling seamless use of personal headphones with the in-flight entertainment system. For added comfort, the Business Class cabin features a self-service refreshment bar, while all travelers benefit from the dedicated Wellbeing Zone—an innovative space between Premium Economy and Economy designed to promote movement and relaxation on extended journeys. Details of this wellness concept remain closely guarded.

Qantas first challenged aircraft manufacturers in 2017 to deliver a jet capable of flying up to 21 hours non-stop. Until now, Singapore Airlines held the record for the longest commercial flight, operating a nearly 19-hour service between Singapore and New York. Airbus responded by engineering the A350-1000ULR, an enhanced version of the A350-900ULR, incorporating additional fuel capacity and range-extending modifications. The upcoming Qantas flights are expected to take 18 to 20 hours, with flight times adjusted for prevailing wind conditions and operational contingencies.
