SAS has officially confirmed its transition to the SkyTeam alliance, effective 1st September 2024. After previously announcing its departure from Star Alliance as of 31st August, the Scandinavian carrier now offers a clear timeline for its integration with SkyTeam, one of the world’s leading global airline alliances.
With this move, SAS guests gain privileged access to an expansive network of over 750 premium airport lounges worldwide, as well as SkyPriority services encompassing expedited check-in, priority boarding, and enhanced baggage handling—hallmarks of the SkyTeam experience.
For loyal EuroBonus members, status mapping is seamless: Silver tier now corresponds to SkyTeam Elite, while Gold and Diamond members attain SkyTeam Elite Plus. All EuroBonus participants can continue to earn and redeem points across the entire SkyTeam network, unlocking new possibilities for luxury travel.
SAS travelers will now enjoy seamless connections across more than 1,060 global destinations, with direct links via SkyTeam carriers such as Air France, KLM, Delta Air Lines, and Middle East Airlines—a significant advantage for those departing from SAS’ major Scandinavian hubs.
In a statement, Anko van der Werff, SAS President and CEO, shared: “Reaching this significant milestone in our alliance transition is truly exciting. Our EuroBonus members can look forward to a broader network and a suite of enhanced benefits as part of the SkyTeam family. This marks a transformative era for our customers, partners, and staff. SAS passengers will benefit from SkyTeam’s robust global reach, deepening our commitment to sustainable innovation and strategic partnerships.”
It’s worth noting that Air France-KLM, a founding SkyTeam partner, has also taken an equity stake in SAS following the airline’s recent restructuring, further strengthening ties within the alliance.
Current SkyTeam members include Aerolíneas Argentinas, Aeromexico, Air Europa, Air France, China Airlines, China Eastern, Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Garuda Indonesia, ITA Airways, Kenya Airways, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Korean Air, Middle East Airlines, Saudia, TAROM, Vietnam Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and XiamenAir.
