Review of Air France Business Class

Air France Business Class is a showcase of refined French hospitality, where every element is thoughtfully curated to deliver an authentic and elevated experience. From the timeless elegance of crew uniforms to exclusive dining by renowned chefs, and from curated French cheeses to tranquil lounges, each touchpoint exudes sophistication and a sense of place.

While Air France Business Class may not be the most ostentatious, it consistently delivers understated luxury and comfort. The airline continues to modernize its fleet with cutting-edge cabins and amenities. As a founding SkyTeam alliance member, Air France—together with KLM—remains among the world’s largest and most influential carriers, connecting travelers to hundreds of destinations.

The Flying Blue loyalty program, shared with partners like KLM, Kenya Airways, and others, allows travelers to earn and redeem miles across the SkyTeam network. Members benefit from seamless mileage accrual and redemption with partners such as Delta Air Lines, China Airlines, Saudia, and more, unlocking access to exclusive lounges and a truly global route map for discerning flyers.

Airport experience

Air France’s principal long-haul operations are anchored at Paris Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports. Whether starting your journey or transiting, Business Class travelers enjoy SkyPriority check-in and expedited security and passport control via exclusive fast-track lanes.

Both hubs offer a cosmopolitan array of boutiques and dining, but the real highlight for premium passengers is the Salon Air France lounges. Spread across terminals, these lounges are sanctuaries featuring self-serve bars with an impressive array of French wines, spirits, and—at select locations—iconic Champagnes like Laurent Perrier. Culinary offerings, curated by Ducasse Paris, spotlight local, sustainable French produce, including the innovative Burgal (a plant-based burger alternative), and a daily rotation of croissants, pain au chocolat, and freshly baked breads. Throughout the day, guests are treated to artisanal cheeses, charcuterie, salads, soups, and French patisserie.

Chilled beverages—including juices, Perrier, and Evian—are available, alongside a curated selection of international publications.

Lounges provide ticketing assistance, complimentary Wi-Fi, and business amenities. Many feature showers for freshening up, and at Charles de Gaulle’s flagship 2E Hall L Lounge, guests can unwind with a sauna session or indulge in complimentary Clarins Spa treatments.

SkyTeam Elite Plus members receive lounge access on international itineraries, regardless of cabin. All Air France Business Class passengers enjoy lounge privileges, even without status.

Signature Air France lounges can also be found in global cities such as Munich, Bangkok, Frankfurt, Houston, New York JFK, San Francisco, and Washington Dulles.

At non-Schengen Charles de Gaulle lounges, guests can book a complimentary 15-minute Clarins Spa treatment—ranging from massages to facials—delivered by expert therapists, subject to availability.

In airports without an Air France-operated lounge, Business Class guests are invited to enjoy well-appointed partner or SkyTeam lounges while awaiting departure.

Cabin & Seat

Stepping into Air France’s Business Class, you’re greeted by a calming palette of navy, grey, and crisp white—an environment that immediately signals tranquility and understated luxury for long-haul travel.

Air France’s ongoing cabin renewal sees the latest generation Safran Versa seats installed on the Boeing 777-300ER, now flying flagship routes such as Paris-New York. Each suite transforms into a 2-meter fully flat bed (approx. 6.5 feet) with a generous 70 cm width, offering direct aisle access in a 1-2-1 layout. Privacy is elevated with sliding doors, while French design flourishes—like red-stitched leather, brushed aluminum, and a signature winged seahorse motif—add a sense of place. Suites offer ample storage, a "Do Not Disturb" light, wireless charging, Bluetooth audio, multiple USB and power outlets, and an intuitive touchscreen for seat controls. Middle suites include a movable divider, ideal for both solo and paired travelers.

Rows one and nine (bulkhead suites) are especially coveted for their extended legroom and unrestricted ottoman—typically reserved for elite Flying Blue members but released to all guests if unclaimed 72 hours before departure.

As of 2025, the last of Air France’s older angled-flat seats have been phased out on the 777 fleet, but it remains essential to consult the seat map when booking, as some Airbus A350s still feature a staggered 1-2-1 layout. The new A350-900s, now numbering 41 in the fleet, feature 48 Versa suites with the largest 4K screens in Air France’s long-haul offering and electronically dimmable panoramic windows. For enhanced privacy, select even-numbered window seats; odd numbers offer easier aisle access.

On the Airbus A330, you may find a mix of 2-2-2 and 1-2-1 seating with varying degrees of privacy and bed flatness. The Dreamliner 787-9 fleet boasts reverse herringbone 1-2-1 suites, ensuring all-aisle access.

Legacy configurations on some 777s and A330s still feature 2-3-2 or 2-2-2 layouts, where window seat guests may need to step over a neighbor. These aircraft are being steadily retrofitted, but if privacy is paramount, we recommend verifying your aircraft’s seating plan before booking.

For those who prefer to research in advance, the Businessclass flight search tool provides visual seat maps, cabin images, and technical specs for most airlines and aircraft, helping you select the most comfortable seat for your journey.

Cuisine

Air France Business Class is synonymous with culinary artistry, offering a menu that celebrates the best of French gastronomy. The airline’s tableware, designed by Jean-Marie Massaud, features fine Limoges porcelain by Guy Degrenne and elegant Christofle cutlery. Menus are crafted by Michelin-starred chefs, with signature dishes often inspired by the flight’s destination. Esteemed culinary partners include Anne-Sophie Pic, Régis Marcon, Thierry Marx, François Adamski, Michel Roth, and, for select routes, local guest chefs such as Youn-Young Kim (Korea), Jofrane Dailly (Réunion), Daniel Rose (USA/Canada), and Olivier Perret (Canada).

Business Class travelers this year can savor an exclusive menu by Thierry Marx, who brings a contemporary, plant-forward approach. Highlights include guinea fowl with carrot and butternut purée, conchiglie pasta with pear and Fourme d’Ambert, and pork loin with langoustine coulis. Seasonal rotations ensure variety and freshness.

The meal service begins with an aperitif, followed by a refined tray featuring an appetizer, salad, and a handpicked selection of French cheeses. Fresh, crusty bread and premium butter are always present. Main courses—typically a choice of beef, poultry, seafood, or pasta—are presented on fine china, and one option is always the chef’s signature creation. Guests may pre-select their main dish up to 24 hours prior to departure. A silver bread basket and both olive oil and butter elevate the table setting, while a dessert trolley rounds off the meal with exquisite pastries and sorbets.

For those who prefer to maximize rest, an express meal service is available, or, on late-night departures from airports like Toronto or New York JFK, a full meal can be enjoyed in the lounge prior to boarding.

Meals are structured, with the first service following takeoff and a second meal offered before landing. A snack bar is typically set up mid-flight for light refreshments. Breakfast or a pre-arrival meal is served depending on the time of day, with hot options available on longer journeys.

Allergen information is available on request, and special meals—such as vegetarian, vegan, or kosher—can be pre-ordered to accommodate dietary needs.

Beverages

In 2025, Air France’s beverage program is under the expert guidance of Xavier Thuizat—Meilleur Sommelier de France 2022, Meilleur Ouvrier de France 2023, and Grand Prix de la Sommellerie Michelin 2024. As Head Sommelier at Hôtel de Crillon, A Rosewood Hotel, Thuizat brings his award-winning palate to Air France, personally overseeing blind tastings across France’s regions to select exceptional wines, Champagnes, and craft beers for the onboard and lounge offerings.

Wine is central to the Air France experience, with an ever-evolving selection of French reds and whites, as well as a Champagne roster that includes Taittinger Brut Réserve, Deutz Brut Classic, and Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve. Pre-departure, guests are welcomed with Champagne, fresh juice, or water (availability of Champagne on the ground varies by airport regulations).

Printed menus detail the selection of two red and two white wines, premium spirits, aperitifs, digestifs, and port. Beer options include both international lagers and French craft brews. Gourmet coffee (Segafredo or Illy) and Palais des Thés teas are offered, as well as a full range of after-dinner drinks on flights over 2.5 hours.

Each Business Class seat is provisioned with bottled water, and additional refreshments are available throughout the flight. The beverage program is updated seasonally to reflect the best of French terroir.

For real-time details on in-flight Champagne and beverage offerings, the Businessclass search tool lists the latest selections by route and class. If you notice an update, you can share your feedback to help keep the information current.

Service

Air France’s cabin crew are renowned for their poise, linguistic fluency, and attentive service. While the approach may be more reserved than on some Middle Eastern or Asian airlines, flight attendants consistently demonstrate professionalism and genuine care, ensuring a seamless and welcoming experience for Business Class guests.

Entertainment

Air France’s latest Business Class suites are equipped with ultra-high-definition 4K entertainment screens and Bluetooth connectivity, offering an extensive library of over 350 films, curated music, and podcasts for every taste.

The Boeing 777 cabins feature a 17.3-inch anti-glare touchscreen and premium noise-cancelling headsets, while the new A350s boast a 20-inch screen—the largest in the Air France fleet—delivering stunning clarity and immersive sound. Bluetooth compatibility allows passengers to connect their own headphones for a personalized experience.

Wi-Fi is now available on more than 90% of Air France’s long-haul fleet, including all Airbus models and Dreamliner 787s. Air France CONNECT offers hourly and full-flight passes, with a high-speed option suitable for streaming. Messaging via WhatsApp, iMessage, and WeChat is complimentary for all guests.

A wide array of French and international newspapers and magazines is provided pre-flight and onboard, in multiple languages. Air France’s own publications—Air France and Air France Madame—feature travel inspiration, fleet information, and the latest in fashion and lifestyle. The Air France Play app grants digital access to additional reading material.

Amenities & Facilities

Upon boarding, Business Class passengers are greeted with plush pillows, slippers, a shoe bag for in-flight storage, and a luxuriously soft duvet. A sturdy hanger is provided so your outerwear can be stored by the crew during the flight.

The amenity kit, newly redesigned for 2025, is crafted from 96% recycled materials and features a chic herringbone pattern with the iconic winged seahorse emblem. Available in navy or beige with a signature red zipper, the kit includes Clarins hydrating face gel and hand cream, an eco-friendly toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, a soft sleep mask, and cozy socks.

Children flying Business Class receive a playful activity kit—complete with a dog-shaped figurine, airplane toy, puzzle, coloring book, and pencils—while infants under two are gifted a soft plush toy in a charming kraft paper case. Air France’s thoughtful approach ensures families are well cared for, with bassinets available by advance request.

Lavatories are well-equipped with Clarins skincare products, and guests are treated to a refreshing hot towel before each meal service, adding an extra touch of indulgence to the journey.

Short & Medium Haul

Air France operates its short and medium-haul flights using narrow-body jets in either a 3-3 or, on the modern Airbus A220-300, a 3-2 layout. In Business Class, the middle seat is blocked for added space and comfort. Pillows and blankets are provided, and meal service varies by route length: cold dishes on shorter flights, with hot meals offered on longer sectors. A full bar service—including Champagne, French wines, and spirits—is available even on brief journeys. Most domestic flights within France do not offer a separate Business Class cabin.

Sustainability

Air France is a recognized leader in sustainable aviation. On all domestic sectors, the airline offsets 100% of carbon emissions, while its international network benefits from continuous fuel efficiency improvements, optimized flight paths, and ground operations powered by electric vehicles.

By 2030, Air France aims to cut carbon emissions by 30% versus 2019 levels, with over 10% of all fuel sourced from sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The airline’s ambitious fleet renewal targets 64% new-generation, lower-emission aircraft by 2028. Pilots have adopted eco-piloting practices to further reduce fuel burn.

Onboard, single-use plastics have been drastically reduced, and Air France prioritizes recycling of cardboard, aluminum, plastics, and magazines. Food waste is minimized through digital pre-ordering and careful menu planning.

The Businessclass search tool displays CO2 emissions for each flight, with higher scores for routes operated by the most environmentally advanced aircraft.
