British Airways pioneered the Premium Economy concept on long-haul routes, introducing its World Traveller Plus cabin decades ago. Today, the airline continues to refine this offering, blending enhanced comfort, upgraded dining, and attentive service. While some aircraft now feature refreshed cabins with the latest seat technology, travelers should expect a mix of updated and legacy interiors during this transition period.
As the UK’s flagship carrier, British Airways is renowned for its consistent, professional service and global reach, connecting London to major cities across six continents.
As a founding member of the oneworld alliance, British Airways enables customers to earn and redeem Avios points on all partner airlines, while frequent flyers from other oneworld carriers can also enjoy reciprocal mileage benefits when traveling with BA.
Airport experience
British Airways operates primarily out of London Heathrow and London Gatwick, with a smaller presence at London City. While London airports are celebrated for their world-class amenities, security screening can be time-consuming and, at times, impersonal—adding extra minutes to your journey. This aspect remains a key consideration for many international travelers.
World Traveller Plus guests benefit from dedicated check-in counters and a generous baggage allowance: two checked bags, one carry-on, and a personal item. However, complimentary lounge access is not included with this fare. Oneworld Sapphire and Emerald elites, regardless of cabin, can access BA’s impressive lounges, featuring well-stocked bars, curated reading materials, business centers with high-speed Wi-Fi, and gourmet buffets with hot and cold selections.
Priority boarding is standard for Premium Economy, ensuring a seamless start to your flight.
Cabin & Seat
British Airways’ Premium Economy is available on all long-haul Airbus and Boeing jets. On the A380, the World Traveller Plus cabin sits on the Upper Deck behind Club World in a 2-4-2 layout across nine rows. The A350 features seven rows in the same configuration, while the 777s offer three to six rows of 2-4-2 seating, and the 787 Dreamliners provide a cozier 2-3-2 setup over four to six rows.
Our experience found the seats spacious and supportive, with widths typically around 18.5 inches (47 cm) and a generous pitch of 38 inches (97 cm). Each seat includes an adjustable leg rest, lumbar support, a deep recline of approximately 8 inches (20 cm), a side table, and a headrest with extendable wings for customized comfort. Some rows, however, have entertainment system hardware beneath the seat, slightly restricting foot space and storage for personal items.
The World Traveller Plus cabin is an intimate space—never more than nine rows—separated from Economy and Business Class by curtains and offering dedicated lavatories. Middle seats are best avoided unless traveling with a companion.
Bulkhead seats prevent seatback intrusion but require all personal items to be stowed during takeoff and landing. These seats feature fold-out screens and bassinet positions for families. The A380 offers four bassinets at the front and two additional at the rear of the Premium Economy cabin.
Advance seat selection is complimentary for flexible fares and oneworld elites; other travelers can select seats at check-in.
Each seat is pre-set with a plush pillow and a soft, wrapped blanket on boarding. Power and USB outlets are available at every seat for device charging.
Our Businessclass flight search tool showcases images, videos, and seat maps for most aircraft, along with seat pitch, width, and recline details—helping you choose the perfect seat before booking.

Cuisine
Dining in World Traveller Plus is a notable step up from Economy, with meals presented on fine china and real cutlery. Premium Economy guests enjoy access to select Business Class entrées, showcasing British produce and international flavors.
Meal service includes two courses on most flights, starting with a hot entrée after departure. Each tray features a fresh salad, appetizer, warm artisanal bread, a choice of protein or vegetarian main, and an indulgent dessert. Glassware replaces plastic, elevating the beverage experience. Throughout the flight, attendants offer snacks and beverages, and a self-serve snack station is available on many routes.
Before arrival, a second meal—either hot or cold, depending on the flight duration and time zone—is served to refresh travelers before landing.
British Airways accommodates over a dozen special dietary needs in Premium Economy, including Halal, Kosher, vegan, and gluten-free options. For more details, see the official British Airways inflight dining guide.

Beverages
Shortly after takeoff, Premium Economy passengers are welcomed with sparkling wine, followed by a comprehensive beverage service featuring complimentary beer, curated wines (typically two whites and two reds), and classic cocktails. BA partners with Union Coffee of London and serves a selection of Twinings teas, ensuring premium hot drink options throughout the journey.
Before the main meal, an aperitif is served with a choice of drinks and a side of mixed nuts, setting a refined tone for the in-flight dining experience.

Service
Our flights with British Airways World Traveller Plus consistently featured professional, approachable crews. While the Premium Economy cabin has a higher passenger-to-crew ratio than Business Class, service remains attentive and tailored. Cabin crew adapt their style to guest preferences, ranging from warm and conversational to discreet and formal, reflecting the best of British hospitality.
On international routes, BA ensures multilingual service, with crew members fluent in languages relevant to each destination. The airline also staffs many flights with locally-based crew, such as Indian nationals on India-bound routes, providing nuanced cultural service touches.

Entertainment
British Airways equips each Premium Economy seat with an adjustable, high-definition touchscreen—allowing for optimal viewing even when the seat in front is reclined. Passengers receive noise-cancelling headphones and access to an expansive library of entertainment options, including blockbuster films, popular TV series, music, audiobooks, and games. The system is intuitive, with both touchscreen and remote controls.
Wi-Fi is available across almost the entire long-haul fleet, with flexible pricing for hourly, full-flight, or messaging-only packages. This connectivity allows guests to stay in touch, work, or browse social media at 35,000 feet. Amenities & Facilities
Each Premium Economy passenger receives a thoughtfully designed amenity kit, including an eye mask, earplugs, toothbrush and toothpaste, hydrating lip balm, flight socks, and a pen. The pillow and blanket are plusher than in Economy, and the sustainable amenity bag is crafted from recycled materials—a nod to BA’s environmental commitment.
Families traveling with young children can pre-book bassinets, and children are treated to an array of kid-friendly entertainment and small gifts, ensuring a comfortable journey for all ages on long-haul flights.

Short & Medium Haul
On intra-European and shorter international flights, British Airways does not sell Premium Economy as a separate cabin. However, when long-haul aircraft are deployed on these routes, savvy travelers can sometimes pay extra for the larger World Traveller Plus seats. While the full Premium Economy experience—such as hot meals, complimentary bar, and premium headphones—is not offered, the seat itself is a worthwhile upgrade for those seeking additional space on shorter journeys. Standard buy-on-board service applies in Economy on these flights.
Sustainability
British Airways is committed to leading the industry in sustainability, investing in next-generation, fuel-efficient aircraft and reducing emissions both in the air and on the ground. Recycling programs are active in lounges and onboard, helping minimize waste at every stage of the journey.
The airline has pledged to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and continues to support climate-positive projects in destinations worldwide. BA now uses bamboo stirrers, eco-friendly amenity kits and headsets, and serves water in bottles made from recycled plastics. Less than 1% of non-catering waste goes to landfill. The latest BA uniforms are crafted from over 90% sustainable fibers and recycled polyester, while retired uniforms are donated or upcycled for charitable and museum purposes.
Passengers can donate spare change on long-haul flights to Flying Start, a charity supporting vulnerable children globally. British Airways was also the first airline to construct a waste-to-fuel facility, converting everyday waste into sustainable aviation fuel.
Through its collaboration with the Born Free Foundation, BA advocates for wildlife protection and funds sanctuaries for rescued animals. Businessclass flight search provides CO2 emissions data for each flight, and our proprietary scoring system favors environmentally advanced aircraft in the results.
