Review of Etihad Airways Business Class

Etihad Airways Business Class consistently ranks among the most refined premium cabins in the Middle East. The carrier delivers a curated blend of regionally-inspired cuisine and attentive service, ensuring a seamless journey from check-in to landing. At its Abu Dhabi home base, the ground experience is elevated with exclusive lounges and the striking new Zayed International Airport terminal, which opened in late 2023 and now serves as a model for modern airport design.

Etihad has strategically shifted its focus, refining its network to prioritize high-demand routes across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and select destinations in Africa. With a streamlined fleet and approximately 90% of schedules set in advance, the airline maintains agility to meet evolving passenger needs. While long-haul intercontinental routes remain, Etihad has reduced its global footprint, placing greater emphasis on quality over quantity. As a result, the Business Class offering may vary depending on aircraft type and route.

Though Etihad is not aligned with a major global alliance, it boasts strong bilateral partnerships with airlines such as Air New Zealand, Air Canada, Oman Air, and SriLankan Airlines, enabling reciprocal mileage accrual and redemptions. The Etihad Guest loyalty program is especially prized among frequent travelers in the UAE and those connecting through Abu Dhabi, offering valuable perks and a robust rewards structure.

Airport experience

Travelers beginning or concluding their journey in Abu Dhabi can take advantage of Etihad’s chauffeur-driven transfers, available to Business Class guests for a seamless trip to the airport. Upon arrival, dedicated check-in counters and priority security lanes ensure a swift and exclusive pre-flight process.

After security, guests are welcomed into Etihad’s flagship Business Class lounges, showcasing a fusion of Middle Eastern and Asian cuisine, a premium bar with an extensive beverage selection, private shower suites, and tranquil spaces for relaxation or productivity. The new Zayed International Airport terminal boasts next-generation lounge facilities with elevated design and amenities. Some connecting flights may still require longer transfers between gates, but Business Class travelers benefit from private shuttle buses for aircraft not served by jet bridges.

At outstations, Etihad Business Class passengers receive priority check-in and access to partner lounges, including Etihad-branded lounges at London Heathrow and Washington Dulles. The premium experience is consistent across the network, with select locations offering locally inspired hospitality.

A standout feature for U.S.-bound travelers is Abu Dhabi’s U.S. Preclearance facility, allowing passengers to complete U.S. customs and immigration formalities before departure. This unique service transforms arrival in the States into a domestic experience, minimizing post-landing wait times. A dedicated Business Class lounge is available post-preclearance for additional comfort.

Abu Dhabi also offers a dedicated Etihad Arrivals Lounge, perfect for freshening up after a long-haul flight.

Cabin & Seat

Etihad’s Business Class seating varies by aircraft, each offering a tailored luxury experience. On the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the recently retired 777, a spacious 1-2-1 layout grants every guest direct aisle access. The iconic Airbus A380 upper deck features 70 Business Studios and The Lobby—a sophisticated lounge bar between First and Business cabins. The latest Airbus A350-1000, a highlight of the fleet, showcases 44 fully enclosed forward-facing suites in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone configuration, each equipped with privacy doors and lie-flat beds measuring 79 inches (200.7 cm).

Narrow-body aircraft like the A320 and A321, often flying regional routes, feature a 2-2 arrangement with plush recliner seats and leg rests. While these do not convert fully flat, they provide enhanced comfort for flights up to five hours, though window passengers must cross over the aisle seat.

The A350-1000 Business Suite, a bespoke Collins Aerospace Super Diamond model, raises the bar for privacy and innovation, offering luxury bedding, wireless charging, USB-A and USB-C ports, AC outlets, and Bluetooth audio. The absence of central overhead bins creates an open, airy ambiance, while ample side storage houses personal items.

On wide-body jets, seat orientation alternates between window-facing and aisle-facing for maximum privacy. We recommend the window-oriented seats for a more secluded feel. The Business Studio variant, available on select aircraft, features higher partitions and alternating forward and rear-facing seats—ideal for couples or solo travelers seeking a cocooned environment. Central pairs can be joined for those traveling together.

All Business Class seats offer electronic controls for various recline positions, a massage function, and transform into fully flat beds. A generous side table provides space for dining or working, complemented by accessible power outlets and personal storage bins. Each guest receives a plush pillow and a high-quality duvet for restful sleep.

Large, sturdy tray tables fold out for meals or laptop use, and on the 787 Dreamliner, electronic window dimmers allow precise control of cabin light while maintaining a view. Our Businessclass flight search features detailed seat maps, photos, and specifications—including pitch, width, and recline—so you can choose the perfect seat for your journey.

Cuisine

Etihad’s Business Class features an on-demand dining concept, allowing passengers to tailor their meal schedule to their preferences and time zones. This bespoke approach means each dish is freshly prepared and beautifully presented, though the individualized nature may result in slightly staggered service times across the cabin.

The airline’s partnership with Armani/Casa has introduced The Constellation Collection, a signature range of designer tableware, cutlery, and linens, elevating the onboard dining aesthetic to new heights and setting a benchmark for luxury in the sky.

Meal service commences with a beverage of your choice, a warm towel, and a selection of gourmet nuts served on a sophisticated tray. The menu showcases a diverse array of Middle Eastern and Western starters, such as salmon tartare, fresh salads, soups, and the renowned Arabic mezze.

Mains offer something for every palate, from tender beef and succulent chicken to expertly crafted pasta and fresh seafood. Dessert options include artisanal cakes, seasonal fruit, premium ice cream, and a curated cheese board. After-dinner beverages range from digestifs and specialty coffees to a wide variety of teas.

Between main meals, guests can select from an all-day menu featuring comfort foods like gourmet sandwiches, burgers, and regional sweets including baklava. The signature Etihad Steak Sandwich remains a favorite among seasoned travelers.

Breakfast service is available for morning arrivals, offering bakery selections, fruit, cereals, and made-to-order omelettes. Passengers are encouraged to order early, as popular items may be limited. Special dietary needs (including vegetarian, kosher, and halal meals) can be accommodated with advance notice.

Beverages

Upon boarding, Business Class guests are welcomed with a selection of refreshing drinks, including Piper Heidsieck Cuvée Brut Champagne and freshly pressed juices, setting a refined tone for the journey ahead.

Printed menus detail a thoughtfully curated beverage program, featuring a premium Champagne, a rotating selection of two white and two red wines, and an indulgent dessert wine. The cocktail menu is extensive, offering both classic and innovative creations, alongside a global range of spirits, mocktails, and non-alcoholic options. Signature cocktails, like the Bellini, are elegantly served in proper glassware. International beers are available, and coffee lovers can indulge in barista-style preparations, from macchiatos to cappuccinos.

Service

Etihad’s multinational cabin crew is renowned for its polished, anticipatory service. During our 2025 experience, we found staff consistently remembered individual preferences and proactively offered assistance. The team’s ability to deliver personalized hospitality—even with the flexibility of dine-on-demand—sets a high standard, blending professionalism with genuine warmth.

Entertainment

Onboard Etihad’s Airbus A350-1000, guests can pair their Bluetooth headphones with expansive 18.5-inch entertainment screens, providing a seamless and wireless viewing experience. The E-BOX entertainment platform offers an extensive catalogue of international films, regional blockbusters, comedies, documentaries, and curated short-form content.

Music aficionados can explore global playlists, radio channels, and podcasts, while younger travelers enjoy a dedicated library of children’s movies and interactive games. The dynamic 3D moving map keeps passengers informed of their journey’s progress, and menus for dining and beverages can also be browsed via the system.

Etihad’s latest Wi-Fly packages—'Chat' and 'Surf'—enable guests to stay connected throughout their flight. Complimentary messaging is available with the 'Chat' plan for Etihad Guest members, covering popular apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and WeChat. The 'Surf' package provides unlimited internet access for a single fee, with prices based on flight duration. Etihad Guest Platinum and Exclusive members enjoy complimentary Surf access, while Gold members benefit from a 25% discount.

Narrow-body aircraft continue to offer mobile connectivity, including voice, SMS, and roaming data packages. Our Businessclass flight search includes up-to-date details on inflight entertainment and Wi-Fi availability for each airline and aircraft.

Amenities & Facilities

Etihad’s Business Class amenity kits, crafted by Giorgio Armani, are available in two gender-neutral designs—a clutch and a cube—blending refined aesthetics with functionality. Each kit is thoughtfully stocked with luxury ESPA skincare products, supporting passenger wellness throughout the flight. On ultra-long-haul sectors, guests receive tailored loungewear for added comfort and rest.

Thanks to the ongoing ESPA partnership, Business Class travelers also benefit from premium skincare and aromatherapy amenities in both amenity kits and lavatories, enhancing the holistic inflight wellbeing experience from departure to arrival.

Short & Medium Haul

On regional and mid-length flights, Etihad maintains its dine-on-demand service, even on narrow-body jets with more compact galleys. While the recliner seats and smaller screens on these aircraft are less immersive than the long-haul suites, they still provide a comfortable and premium environment. The food and beverage program remains consistent, including Champagne and the full selection of wines and cocktails.

Sustainability

Etihad has made significant strides in sustainability, investing in robust recycling programs and optimizing ground procedures for efficiency. The airline has accelerated its transition away from single-use plastics and is firmly committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Conservation initiatives also target the prevention of illegal wildlife trade, with ongoing monitoring and awareness campaigns.

Over 300 crew members participate in the Green Ambassador program, easily identified by their green scarves. These ambassadors educate passengers on eco-friendly initiatives and provide valuable feedback to improve the airline’s environmental performance. Small yet impactful changes—such as switching to paper seals on blankets—reflect Etihad’s dedication to reducing waste.

Etihad’s partnership with Boeing continues to advance innovative projects, including noise reduction and the use of sustainable aviation fuels. The visually distinctive Greenliner Dreamliner operates as a flying testbed for these initiatives. Passengers are encouraged to offset their carbon footprint through contributions to internationally recognized decarbonization projects.

Our Businessclass flight search details CO2 emissions for each flight, and our quality scores favor the most modern and environmentally responsible aircraft in the sky.
