Review of Lufthansa Business Class

Lufthansa, Germany’s flagship carrier, is renowned for delivering a seamless and reliable Business Class journey. From sophisticated lounges to inflight enhancements, Lufthansa Business Class is crafted for discerning travelers prioritizing comfort, efficiency, and style.

Lufthansa’s extensive network connects five continents, with Frankfurt and Munich serving as major international gateways. The airline stands out for its robust European route map and its ability to link global cities with a schedule designed for both business and leisure passengers.

May 2024 marked the debut of Lufthansa Allegris—a next-generation Business Class product and premium Business Class Suite—on the Airbus A350. The first Allegris-equipped flights launched from Munich to Vancouver, with Toronto, Chicago, and Montreal joining the rotation as the fleet grows. By mid-2025, Allegris cabins are becoming a signature on key transatlantic routes, reflecting Lufthansa’s commitment to elevated passenger experience.

As a founding member of Star Alliance, Lufthansa enables passengers to earn and redeem miles across a vast global network, including partners like Air Canada, United, EVA Air, and Thai Airways. The Miles & More frequent flyer program continues to reward loyal customers with exclusive benefits, elite status tiers, and flexible redemption options, making it a favorite among frequent international travelers.

Airport experience

Lufthansa’s dual hubs in Frankfurt and Munich are engineered for smooth connections and feature upscale amenities that set a high bar in premium travel. Dedicated Business Class check-in counters, priority security lanes, and expedited boarding streamline the airport experience at both hubs, with similar premium perks available across the network.

Business Class guests enjoy access to Lufthansa’s acclaimed lounges, with Senator Lounges reserved for elite travelers and Star Alliance Gold members. Each lounge offers an impressive buffet with regional and international dishes, complimentary wines, German beers, and signature cocktails. The Senator Lounges elevate the culinary offerings, while both lounge types provide showers, quiet zones, and ample workspaces—ideal for both relaxation and productivity between flights.

Signature touches include fresh-baked pretzels, Haribo Gummy Bears, and an enticing selection of snacks and desserts. Complimentary Wi-Fi, private offices, phone booths, and global reading materials are available to all guests.

Lufthansa’s lounge network spans key German cities—Berlin, Dusseldorf, Hamburg—and extends to major international airports such as Detroit, Dubai, London Heathrow, Milan Malpensa, Newark, and New York JFK.

Frankfurt’s exclusive Welcome Lounge welcomes arriving Business Class travelers with spa-like showers, a tranquil relaxation area, business workstations, and a gourmet breakfast buffet.

On routes without a branded facility, premium passengers are granted access to partner lounges, ensuring a consistently high standard worldwide. Lufthansa’s comprehensive lounge portfolio continues to impress with its thoughtful amenities and attentive service.

Cabin & Seat

Lufthansa’s long-haul fleet features a diverse mix of widebody aircraft, including the double-deck Airbus A380, Boeing 747, the Airbus A330, A340, A350, and the newly introduced Boeing 787 Dreamliner—part of a major fleet modernization. The Allegris Business Class suite, launched in 2024, is now available on select A350s and will soon expand to the Boeing 777-9s arriving in 2025. This new product brings direct aisle access, a 1-2-1 layout, and a choice between enhanced privacy or duo seating for couples and families.

The Allegris Business Class seats transform into a fully flat bed stretching up to 2.2 meters. The alternating herringbone and throne seat layout maximizes both personal space and versatility, with the front row Business Plus Suites boasting sliding privacy doors, oversized entertainment screens, and individual wardrobes. All seats feature 4K HD IFE, wireless charging, Bluetooth audio, and an intuitive touch tablet for seat, lighting, and climate control.

The color palette of the cabins is refined, blending deep blue, slate gray, and espresso brown with subtle Lufthansa branding. While the latest Allegris product is rolling out on new A350s, 787s, and soon on 777-9s, older aircraft—especially the Boeing 747-8—retain a 2-2-2 configuration in the main deck and 2-2 on the upper deck. Retrofitting is in the pipeline but not yet complete.

Advance seat selection is complimentary, which is recommended to secure your preferred spot. On legacy seats, the proximity of footwells in the center pairs can lead to limited foot space and a lack of privacy dividers. Couples may appreciate the double seats, while solo travelers may prefer window or throne seats for extra solitude.

Onboard the A350, an exterior tail camera feeds live views to the IFE system, a unique bonus for aviation enthusiasts.

Seats are fully adjustable, from a gentle recline for reading or dining to a true lie-flat bed for deep rest. Large, sturdy tray tables accommodate laptops and fine dining, and every seat is equipped with a plush pillow, blanket, and ample storage for personal items and amenity kits. Mattress toppers are provided on longer overnight flights for added comfort.

Our flight search at Businessclass includes photos, videos, and seat maps for most airlines and aircraft, letting you compare seat pitch, width, and recline before booking your trip.

Cuisine

Lufthansa has elevated its Business Class dining to rival First Class service, with a focus on restaurant-quality presentation and flavor. Meals are artfully plated on linen-topped tables—eschewing trays for a more refined atmosphere—and the array of menu choices on intercontinental flights is among the broadest in its class.

Rather than traditional trolley service, dishes are presented directly from the galley by attentive crew members, who oversee specific cabin sections. This approach fosters a bespoke, interactive dining experience reminiscent of fine dining.

Pre-meal drinks and warm nuts set the stage, served in full-sized glassware. German beers are poured from glass bottles, and guests can expect a curated wine program led by industry experts. Baskets of freshly baked bread, individual plates, and high-quality tableware further distinguish the meal service.

Menus rotate every two months and typically showcase beef, poultry, seafood, and vegetarian mains, with special seasonal items—like festive game dishes during the holidays—making regular appearances. The attention to culinary detail is evident, with destination-inspired recipes and premium ingredients.

Dessert is a highlight, with a choice of sweets, cheeses, or fresh fruit, complemented by after-dinner drinks. For those who prefer flexibility, a cold express meal is available at any time, featuring a selection of light starters, cheese, and dessert.

Depending on flight duration, a second meal—either breakfast or dinner—is served before landing, tailored to time zone and passenger preference.

Service strikes a balance between efficiency and leisure, allowing ample time for rest or productivity without rushing the dining experience.

On late-night or short-haul red-eye flights, meal service is streamlined to maximize passengers’ rest.

In 2025, Lufthansa continues to innovate with new vegetarian amuse-bouches, expanded fruit-based desserts, and a modular snack bar for in-between cravings. The signature Lufthansa Aperitif Avionic, in partnership with Ziegler, and a parting Lindt chocolate box add memorable finishing touches.

Dine-on-demand is not available, but a snack station and flexible crew service provide ample alternatives for individual needs. Special meals, including those for dietary, religious, and regional preferences, must be ordered in advance. On India routes, for example, a wide selection of vegetarian dishes is always available.

Families benefit from a children’s menu by Alexander Herrmann, bookable up to 24 hours pre-departure.

Beverages

Upon boarding, Business Class guests are welcomed with a selection of drinks—sparkling wine, fresh juice, or mineral water. Post-takeoff, the beverage service expands to include a curated Champagne, a rotating portfolio of white and red wines, and a premium bar featuring international spirits, German beers, and artisanal cocktails.

Lufthansa’s wine program is overseen by Master of Wine Markus Del Monego, who handpicks labels to complement the inflight menu and elevate the overall experience.

Non-alcoholic options abound, including still and sparkling water, non-alcoholic beer, fresh juices, and a selection of Dallmayr Kaffee Premium Selection coffees. Espresso and a variety of fine teas are also available throughout the flight.

Service

Lufthansa’s cabin crew excel in delivering the brand’s signature efficiency, blending professionalism with warm hospitality. While service styles may vary, our recent flights consistently met the airline’s high expectations for attentiveness and discretion.

On routes to Asia, Lufthansa often staffs local crew members to provide culturally attuned service and offer assistance in passengers’ native languages, enhancing the sense of welcome for international travelers.

During Oktoberfest, crew and ground teams frequently don traditional Bavarian outfits, infusing flights with festive flair and a sense of place that’s distinctly German—even for those simply connecting through Munich or Frankfurt.

Entertainment

Headphones are integrated into each seat and sanitized earpiece covers are supplied in amenity kits for hygiene. While this eco-friendly solution may not suit every traveler, it’s a sustainable choice that aligns with Lufthansa’s environmental goals. Audio quality is good, and entertainment options vary by aircraft model.

Most long-haul jets feature expansive, high-definition touchscreens with an impressive catalogue: from blockbuster films and global TV series to cartoons, documentaries, and live sports. Lufthansa is especially strong in music, offering an extensive range of international genres, audiobooks, podcasts, and interactive games for all ages.

Remote controls are available for easy navigation, though responsiveness can differ by aircraft.

Wi-Fi is now standard across the majority of Lufthansa’s fleet. Pricing is tiered by speed—text-only packages are most affordable, while high-speed plans support streaming and file downloads. Data limits apply, so heavy users may wish to select the top-tier option for uninterrupted connectivity.

Amenities & Facilities

Lufthansa provides thoughtfully curated amenity kits, refreshed seasonally and featuring exclusive designs for holidays. Kits typically include a sleep mask, socks, dental essentials, and premium skincare products. On overnight flights, Business Class guests are also given comfortable sleep shirts or pyjamas for added relaxation.

Lavatories are equipped with eye masks, mouthwash, wipes, and other hygiene products to enhance comfort throughout the flight.

Hot towels are distributed before every meal, adding a touch of spa-like luxury to the journey.

Bassinets can be reserved on widebody aircraft for families traveling with infants, and select seats are equipped to accommodate these requests.

Short & Medium Haul

Lufthansa’s intra-European Business Class is typically operated on single-aisle aircraft with a blocked middle seat for added space, mirroring the standard across European carriers. However, Lufthansa distinguishes itself with reliable service and a refined onboard offering. The Tasting HEIMAT menu rotates regional German specialties from six cities, paired with a curated wine list, even on shorter journeys. Special and children’s meals can be pre-ordered for flights over 75 minutes.

The beverage service is comprehensive, with wines, sparkling wine, beer, cocktails, and a full range of soft drinks. Service via aisle carts is efficient and delivered with genuine hospitality.

New for 2025, Lufthansa has expanded its entertainment options: the FlyNet® Wi-Fi portal now offers unlimited access to over 45 top German and English-language magazines on personal devices, and digital magazines are also available on seatback screens in all cabins on Allegris-equipped long-haul jets. Passengers can pre-download from a library of 1,600 titles in 40 languages, and enjoy a new selection of podcasts spanning business, travel, science, and entertainment genres—free of charge on European flights.
