Review of Vietnam Airlines Business Class

Vietnam Airlines Business Class is rapidly gaining recognition as one of Southeast Asia’s premier premium travel options, drawing discerning travelers eager to experience the country’s dynamic culture, breathtaking landscapes, and award-winning cuisine. As Vietnam’s flagship carrier, Vietnam Airlines has continuously elevated its global profile, providing a seamless and refined way to reach Vietnam’s most captivating destinations.

With a legacy stretching back to 1956, Vietnam Airlines has evolved from a modest fleet into a regional powerhouse, currently operating 96 routes and serving 27 international cities across Europe, Asia, Australia, North America, and the Middle East. The carrier’s strategic hubs in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang support one of the fastest-growing domestic aviation markets in the world.

The airline’s signature livery, originally unveiled in 2002 and updated in 2015 to feature a luminous blue and gold palette and a striking Golden Lotus motif, reflects its commitment to innovation and style. Vietnam Airlines was the first in Asia to operate the cutting-edge Airbus A350-900, underscoring its role as a regional trendsetter.

As a SkyTeam Alliance member, Vietnam Airlines offers extensive codeshare opportunities with leading airlines such as Air France and Delta Air Lines, creating convenient connections throughout Europe and North America. A strategic partnership with Singapore Airlines, reaffirmed in 2024, further expands its international reach and service synergy.

The Business Class cabin stands as Vietnam Airlines’ flagship product, complemented by the elite Lotusmiles loyalty program. Lotusmiles rewards frequent flyers with exclusive benefits, including lounge access, priority services, and mileage accrual on partner airlines, now enhanced with new digital features in 2025.

The airline maintains one of Southeast Asia’s youngest fleets, with nearly 100 modern aircraft such as the Airbus A321neo, Airbus A350, and Boeing 787 Dreamliner—ensuring travelers enjoy the latest in comfort, efficiency, and onboard technology.

Airport experience

Vietnam Airlines’ headquarters are based in Hanoi’s Long Biên District, with primary operations at Nôi Bài International Airport (30 kilometres from downtown Hanoi) and Tan Son Nhat International Airport (just 8 kilometres from Ho Chi Minh City’s vibrant core). Both locations provide streamlined access to Vietnam’s thriving urban centers and are recognized for their efficiency and passenger amenities.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport remains the country’s busiest, featuring two terminals, with all international departures handled from Terminal 2 (T2).

Business Class travelers benefit from an exclusive check-in experience on T2’s upper level, expedited security and immigration, and a generous baggage policy—two checked bags (up to 32kg each), two carry-ons, and a personal item (combined 18kg), all with priority handling. Fast-track boarding and disembarkation enhance the seamless experience.

The Lotus Lounge on the third floor is complimentary for Business Class guests, offering a tranquil, air-conditioned space with panoramic views, gourmet buffets, and a wide beverage selection. Open throughout the day, the lounge permits stays up to four hours and is well-suited for both relaxation and productivity.

The buffet features Vietnamese classics like Pho, regional snacks, and international dishes. Chilled drinks, premium wines, spirits, and a full-service coffee bar are readily available. Seating is thoughtfully arranged for both solo travelers and groups, including semi-private nooks and a dedicated family area. A highlight is the massage chair enclave, providing much-needed respite before your flight.

The lounge also offers a modest business center, a unique pet-friendly area, and essential amenities such as showers, smoking rooms, and baggage storage. While charging outlets can be scarce during peak hours, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi ensures connectivity.

Shower suites, though simple, are clean and well-stocked with essentials—ideal after a long journey. Additional Lotus Lounges can be found at key airports domestically (Hanoi, Da Nang) and internationally (Sydney, Beijing, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok). Where a Lotus Lounge is unavailable, Business Class guests receive access to SkyTeam or partner lounges worldwide.

Cabin & Seat

Vietnam Airlines maintains a contemporary fleet featuring Boeing 787-9/787-10 Dreamliners and Airbus A350s on intercontinental routes, complemented by the efficient Airbus A321neo for regional journeys. Each aircraft is designed to deliver a sophisticated and restful environment for Business Class guests.

The Business Class cabin showcases a harmonious blend of gold accents and calming olive-green upholstery, accented by the lotus emblem—a nod to Vietnam Airlines’ signature branding. Subtle cream tones and quality finishes create a tranquil, luxurious setting.

On the Dreamliner, Business Class includes 24 to 28 seats, depending on the aircraft configuration and presence of a Premium Economy section. Each suite provides direct aisle access and transforms into a fully flat bed up to 75 inches (190 cm) long, with a seat pitch of 42 inches (107 cm) and a width of 21.5 inches (55 cm), arranged in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout. The semi-enclosed shell design offers privacy, with ample personal storage, retractable armrests, and dedicated shoe cubbies. The large side table, reading light, and individual coat hook add to the thoughtful touches. Seats are equipped with USB ports, AC power, and a handheld remote for the entertainment system.

Window seats are ideal for solo travelers, while the paired center seats suit those flying together, though the fixed divider may make conversation less convenient. Spacious overhead bins accommodate all carry-on needs, ensuring a clutter-free space.

The Airbus A350 features 29 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, with some aircraft offering a staggered layout for added privacy. Note that central overhead bins and personal air vents may be absent on certain A350s, so it’s worth reviewing seat maps on the Vietnam Airlines website ahead of booking.

Passengers were encouraged to use personal reusable items to minimize single-use waste.

The airline is also engaged in meaningful community work, partnering with Operation Smile to fund life-changing surgeries for children and with VietHarvest to redirect surplus food to local charities. These initiatives reflect a holistic approach to sustainability and social impact.
