According to the latest data from Airports Council International (ACI), global passenger numbers soared by 29% in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching 98% of the pre-pandemic 2019 benchmark. The total passenger count for 2024 is estimated at 8.8 billion worldwide.

International travel continues to be the main catalyst for growth, posting an impressive 40% annual increase, although still just below the 2019 peak. Dubai International (DXB), the flagship hub for Emirates, maintains its position as the leading airport for international travelers, though Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta (ATL) remains the world’s busiest overall.

London Heathrow retains its crown as Europe’s busiest airport, closely followed by Istanbul. In Asia, Tokyo Haneda and Delhi Indira Gandhi are now the continent’s passenger leaders.
