Air New Zealand Secretly Plans New Business Class Seat

Air New Zealand is quietly advancing an ambitious redesign of its business class offering, preparing to elevate the premium travel experience for its forthcoming aircraft deliveries, according to the

New Zealand Herald.

The airline is developing the new business class cabin within a purpose-built innovation hub, "Hangar 22", located near its Auckland base. This initiative brings together frequent flyers, acclaimed design consultants, and Air New Zealand's dedicated innovation team to reimagine the inflight experience.

Air New Zealand’s current Business Premier seat debuted over a decade ago, coinciding with the retirement of its first class product. In recent years, the carrier has continued to innovate, including the introduction of the Skycouch in economy.

While specific details of the upcoming business class suite remain confidential, industry sources anticipate its launch on the airline’s new-generation long-haul fleet. These advanced cabins are expected to debut on the replacement aircraft for the ageing Boeing 777-200s, with rollouts scheduled through 2025 and beyond.

Air New Zealand faces strong competition from carriers such as Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, and Qatar Airways, all of whom feature contemporary lie-flat business class seats and, in some cases, first class suites on New Zealand-bound routes.

The redesign is part of a comprehensive cabin refresh, which will also introduce enhanced premium economy and economy products, ensuring Air New Zealand maintains its reputation for world-class inflight innovation.
