Airline gives inside look into the curation of its onboard food and wine menus

— Emirates has introduced its exclusive Food and Wine Channels, offering travelers an immersive journey into the meticulous process behind the airline’s acclaimed onboard cuisine and beverage curation.

These innovative channels provide a rare glimpse into Emirates’ ongoing investment—now surpassing US $750 million—in world-class wines and regionally focused, seasonal menus designed by celebrated chefs. Both the Food and Wine Channels are now available on all Emirates flights, setting a new standard for in-flight entertainment and enrichment.

The Emirates Food Channel highlights the intricate planning and creativity of the airline’s culinary team, from sourcing premium ingredients to crafting menus that reflect the latest gastronomic trends. With approximately 120 million meals served annually, Emirates ensures that every dish in First, Business, and Economy Class receives the same unwavering attention to quality and detail. Viewers are transported behind the scenes to meet longstanding partners—such as olive oil producers in Umbria, Italy, and the renowned Dilmah tea growers in Sri Lanka—demonstrating Emirates’ dedication to authenticity and provenance.

The episodes also present step-by-step guides to beloved regional recipes from the onboard menu, empowering travelers to recreate signature Emirates dishes like Prawn Machbous or perfect delicate crepes at home. A curated recipe collection is available on

. The Food Channel debuted with two episodes and has since expanded its library, with additional installments released annually to showcase fresh culinary collaborations and seasonal inspirations.

Joost Heymeijer, Emirates’ Senior Vice President of Catering, shares: “Our goal is to deliver an extraordinary dining experience to every guest, regardless of cabin class. The depth of care in meal preparation and wine selection is immense. Through these channels, we’re opening up our culinary philosophy and partnership approach for guests to explore. Our instructional videos and recipes offer travelers a unique keepsake to bring home from their journey.”

“For example, if you’re savoring a glass of Château Haut Brion 2004 at 38,000 feet, our wine tutorials will deepen your appreciation by revealing the story and complexity behind each vintage. Similarly, if you’ve enjoyed our Braised Coconut Beef Short Ribs on board and wish to replicate it at home, you’ll find the complete recipe on the Food Channel,” he continues.

The Emirates Wine Channel features a documentary delving into the airline’s sophisticated wine procurement strategy, emphasizing direct relationships with the world’s top winemakers to secure rare and highly sought-after vintages. Emirates’ renowned wine program, established over the last decade, now offers guests over 90 varieties of wines, champagnes, and ports every day across its global network.

A comprehensive series of wine education segments is also available. Led by Oliver Dixon, Head of Fine Wine at MMI (a member of the Emirates Group) and an integral part of the wine acquisition team, these tutorials guide viewers through expert tastings and share the stories behind each label’s terroir and craftsmanship. With 12 episodes currently available and more in production, Emirates continues to enrich the onboard experience for discerning wine enthusiasts.
