Bahrain airport unveils its new billion dollar terminal

Bahrain International Airport has set a new benchmark in Middle Eastern aviation with the debut of its ultra-modern terminal, blending cutting-edge facilities with authentic Bahraini hospitality.

Spanning an impressive 204,000 square meters—equivalent to approximately 39 football fields—the new terminal is four times larger than its predecessor and represents a USD 1.1 billion investment in the Kingdom’s future as a premier travel hub.

Strategically located on Muharraq Island, less than 10 km from downtown Manama, the airport continues to serve as the central hub for Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national carrier, ensuring seamless connectivity for both business and leisure travelers.

With over 30 international airlines now operating at Bahrain International Airport, Gulf Air accounts for more than a third of passenger traffic—serving a significant share of the nearly 10 million annual travelers. The new terminal is engineered to accommodate up to 14 million passengers each year, reflecting Bahrain’s growing stature in regional and global aviation.

Travelers enjoy streamlined departures with 104 state-of-the-art check-in counters, many reserved exclusively for premium class guests and elite loyalty members. The terminal features two signature lounges: the sophisticated Pearl Lounge, accessible to all non-Gulf Air passengers, and Gulf Air’s flagship Falcon Gold Lounge, a haven for Black, Gold, and Silver Falconflyer members. The Falcon Gold Lounge is open 24/7 and can host over 400 guests, offering serene prayer rooms, private showers, a dedicated children’s zone, billiards, a gaming enclave, tranquil relaxation areas, and a live culinary station with freshly prepared gourmet fare.

Bahrain International Airport’s new terminal delights travelers with expanded Duty-Free boutiques, curated art installations, and a diverse array of restaurants. The architectural design seamlessly blends contemporary luxury with elements inspired by Bahrain’s rich heritage, creating a distinctive sense of place.

With a legacy dating back to 1927, Bahrain has long been a pioneer in Gulf aviation. The original terminal on Muharraq Island first welcomed travelers in 1950. Today, the airport offers direct flights throughout the GCC—Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman—as well as key long-haul routes to London, Mumbai, and Frankfurt, positioning Bahrain as a vital link between East and West.

In 2025, Gulf Air continues to modernize its fleet, marking a milestone with the arrival of its second Airbus A321neoLR, showcasing the exclusive 70th Anniversary Golden Falcon livery and 16 next-generation lie-flat Falcon Gold seats. The airline has 15 additional A321s on order, with eight configured to offer full flat-bed seating in the premium cabin, underscoring Gulf Air’s commitment to elevating the passenger experience.
