British Airways launches Chile service

British Airways has inaugurated a direct connection between London Heathrow and Santiago, Chile, offering travelers the only nonstop service linking these vibrant capital cities.

This flagship route, launched on January 3, 2017, remains British Airways’ longest direct flight, spanning an impressive 14 hours and 40 minutes—surpassing the carrier’s previous record to Buenos Aires by nearly an hour. The journey is operated four times weekly aboard the state-of-the-art Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, renowned for its advanced comfort and fuel efficiency across four premium cabins.

Santiago strengthens British Airways’ growing South American portfolio, joining the likes of San Jose in Costa Rica and Lima in Peru, which have recently been added to the network. The airline continues to serve major cities including Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo in Brazil, as well as Buenos Aires in Argentina, catering to both business and leisure travelers.

Alex Cruz, Chairman and CEO of British Airways, commented: “Our ongoing investment in South and Central America reflects robust demand from both corporate and holiday travelers. Expanding our footprint with Santiago further enhances vital commercial and cultural ties between the UK and the region.”

He added: “Chile’s dynamic economy and strong trade links with Europe make this direct route an essential bridge for business travelers. Additionally, Chile’s breathtaking landscapes, renowned culinary scene, and celebrated wine regions continue to draw discerning adventurers and epicureans from around the world.”

With its captivating diversity—from the Atacama Desert to Patagonia—Chile stands out as an essential destination for luxury travelers seeking authentic experiences.
