For luxury travelers seeking efficiency, comfort, and reliability, taking the high-speed train within China offers a compelling alternative to domestic flights, which continue to face delays and congestion in 2025. Our journey, lasting just under an hour, seamlessly connected the dynamic cities of Hangzhou and Shanghai.
International visitors must still collect their physical boarding pass at a dedicated counter for foreign passengers before accessing the station. Afterward, a swift security screening is required at entry.
Major Chinese train stations remain vast and bustling, with a palpable energy that can initially seem overwhelming. At this particular station, the Business Class lounge was discreetly located on the ground level.
Upon entering the lounge, attentive staff greeted us and verified our travel documents. The lounge itself was generously sized, thoughtfully segmented into areas for relaxation, dining, working, or simply unwinding.
Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi and ample charging stations were readily available. While the food selection was modest—offering light snacks and a variety of non-alcoholic beverages—the tranquil atmosphere was ideal for pre-journey preparation. Staff provided timely boarding reminders, typically announcing platform access about 15 minutes prior to departure.
The train itself is capable of cruising at speeds up to 350 km/h, showcasing the latest advancements in rail technology. The Business Class cabin is positioned at the front of the train for added exclusivity.
Dedicated onboard staff welcomed us personally, guiding each guest to their seat in a serene, low-occupancy cabin—only five seats in total—creating an intimate and calm environment.
Each sumptuous leather seat offers full adjustability, from upright to a nearly flat position. Upon request, plush blankets and pillows are provided. At your seat, you’ll find a personal power outlet, reading light, tray table, and an entertainment screen (which during our ride was not operational), as well as complimentary Wi-Fi access.
A curated selection of non-alcoholic drinks and uniquely local packaged snacks—such as assorted cookies, dried tofu, and spiced duck—was served during the journey.
The ride was remarkably smooth and time passed quickly. Just before arrival, staff made personalized announcements to ensure all guests were ready to disembark.
