Emirates has officially introduced its flagship Airbus A380 on the Dubai to Birmingham route, with the inaugural superjumbo service landing at Birmingham Airport to much fanfare on Easter Sunday.
This state-of-the-art aircraft now operates the EK39/40 rotation, replacing the previous Boeing 777 and significantly elevating the onboard experience. Since the launch of Emirates flights to Birmingham in December 2000, the carrier has expanded to three daily departures from the Midlands to Dubai. With the addition of the A380, Emirates now offers a 15% increase in daily seat capacity between these two major hubs, providing a total of 1,471 seats each day across Business and Economy cabins.
The Emirates A380 flying to Birmingham features a refined two-class configuration: 58 lie-flat Business Class seats and 557 spacious Economy seats. Travelers can indulge in the renowned Onboard Lounge—a signature space for premium passengers to socialize at 40,000 feet—and enjoy exclusive onboard shower facilities.

Laurie Berryman, Emirates Vice President UK, commented: “Witnessing the A380’s arrival at Birmingham Airport was a proud milestone. Our partnership with Birmingham spans over two decades, and introducing the A380 as the airport’s first regular superjumbo service underscores our long-term commitment to the region.”
“The A380 remains a passenger favorite worldwide, and we’re thrilled to connect the West Midlands’ vibrant business community with our award-winning flagship. As the region continues to flourish, Emirates is dedicated to supporting its growth and maintaining our role as a leading global connector.”
This strategic expansion coincides with Dubai International Airport’s ongoing growth, now capable of handling more than 90 million travelers annually, following the opening of Concourse D.
The development includes 21 new contact gates, four of which are specifically designed for the Airbus A380 and Boeing 747, further cementing Dubai’s status as a premier global aviation hub.
