Emirates embraces the global rise in demand for plant-based cuisine by launching an expanded selection of vegan dishes onboard for Veganuary, available throughout January.
While travellers have long been able to pre-order vegan meals across all cabins, this year marks the first time Emirates features vegan mains as a standard menu choice in First and Business Class on flights departing Dubai to destinations in the USA, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and Addis Ababa. In response to enthusiastic feedback, Economy Class passengers flying to Addis Ababa will also find a vegan entrée on the standard menu this month. Veganuary, an international initiative, aims to inspire more people to explore vegan living, particularly during January.
In the past year, Emirates has served over 400,000 bespoke plant-based meals in-flight—a testament to surging interest in vegan options. The airline's culinary team has curated an impressive repertoire of more than 200 vegan recipes, and for January, guests can anticipate sophisticated new flavours and presentations inspired by global gastronomy.
On all other routes and in every cabin, passengers can continue to request vegan and other special meals up to 24 hours before departure, ensuring dietary preferences are met with the utmost care.
Emirates’ vegan offerings are thoughtfully crafted by a dedicated team of chefs and nutrition experts, encompassing creative starters, gourmet mains, and indulgent plant-based desserts. Notably, Emirates has introduced artisanal vegan cheese in Economy Class and offers premium vegan chocolate selections in First and Business Class as part of its acclaimed onboard chocolate programme.
For those who favour traditional fare, Emirates’ regular menus—developed by award-winning chefs and recognized at the Skytrax World Airline Awards—remain available. With more than 120 million meals served annually across over 140 cities on six continents, Emirates continues to lead the industry in culinary innovation, offering destination-inspired menus that reflect the carrier’s commitment to excellence onboard what is often described as the world’s largest flying restaurant experience.
