Emirates introduces blankets made from plastic bottles

After elevating premium cabins with innovative hydrating sleepwear,

Emirates has expanded its sustainability efforts by introducing eco-conscious blankets made entirely from recycled PET plastic bottles for Economy Class travelers.

These responsibly produced blankets, now standard on all Emirates long-haul flights in Economy, are manufactured using the advanced ecoTHREAD™ technology.

Each blanket is expertly woven from yarn derived from 28 post-consumer plastic bottles. The process transforms discarded bottles into plastic chips, which are spun into ultra-fine, soft polar fleece—delivering premium warmth and comfort while reducing environmental impact.

As of 2025, Emirates has repurposed more than 120 million plastic bottles for this initiative, preventing significant landfill waste and curbing the release of microplastics and toxins into the ecosystem. This remarkable program underscores the airline's leadership in sustainable aviation practices.

Developed in collaboration with in-flight amenities partner Buzz, these blankets reflect a broader commitment to eco-innovation and responsible travel.

Emirates continues to expand its onboard sustainability program, which includes comprehensive recycling of aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles, and clean paper materials whenever operationally feasible.
