Etihad Discontinues Free Chauffeur Service, and Other Changes

Etihad Airways has revised its premium ground transfer benefits, restricting complimentary chauffeur-driven airport transfers for first and business class passengers exclusively to its Abu Dhabi hub.

Under the latest policy, travelers in all cabin classes journeying to or from any destination outside Abu Dhabi must now purchase chauffeur services separately. This update applies globally as of July 2025, regardless of the ticket class.

Members of the Etihad Guest loyalty program can now continue to collect reward miles when booking these paid chauffeur transfers, offering added value for frequent flyers.

Complimentary chauffeur transfers remain a hallmark for guests traveling in The Residence—the airline’s ultra-luxurious suite—on A380 flights departing from Abu Dhabi, London, Paris, Sydney, and New York.

Passengers who secured first or business class reservations before the policy change will still receive complimentary chauffeur service at eligible locations, honoring the original booking terms.

Etihad has also introduced several enhancements to its passenger experience: economy class guests now have the opportunity to purchase access to Etihad’s global network of premium lounges. In addition, business class travelers departing from, or connecting through, Abu Dhabi may upgrade to the flagship first class lounge and spa for a fee. For those seeking extra comfort in economy, Etihad offers an innovative ‘neighbor-free seat’ option—passengers may bid to secure up to three adjacent seats, subject to flight load and aircraft configuration.

Economy travelers can submit their bids for additional space at the time of booking. Successful applicants are notified 30 hours before departure, providing greater comfort, privacy, and flexibility at an accessible price point.

According to Executive Vice President Commercial, Mohammad Al Bulooki, these service refinements are designed to offer travelers increased personalization and maintain competitive fare structures, all while ensuring Etihad’s renowned service standards in every cabin.

“Etihad Airways is dedicated to enhancing the guest journey by focusing on benefits our passengers value most,” Al Bulooki explained.

“We are evolving our product offering to align with the evolving expectations of our guests and to support our commitment to tailored, high-quality service.”

“Following a comprehensive review, our global chauffeur services have been adjusted, with Abu Dhabi remaining the exception due to high demand.”

“We also recognize that many guests now prefer arranging their own ground transportation, reflecting broader travel trends.”
