With the debut of its direct Helsinki–Los Angeles route, Finnair has reimagined the premium inflight experience by launching a refreshed collection of business class amenities. This initiative, in collaboration with iconic Finnish design house Marimekko, brings a sophisticated blend of art and comfort to all long-haul flights operated on the Airbus A350 and A330.
Finnair’s latest amenity kits and sleep masks showcase four classic Maija Isola patterns from the 1960s—Rautasänky, Joonas, Jenkka, and Pieni Melooni. Each design is offered in two distinct color palettes, resulting in eight collectible options that rotate every six months to keep the offering fresh for frequent travelers.
The kits utilize a jacquard weaving process that interlaces deep blue with accent hues, creating an elegant, tactile finish. According to David Kondo, Finnair’s Head of Cabin Interior Development, “We wanted to continuously delight our loyal guests with new visual experiences and versatile amenity kits designed for reuse beyond the journey.”
Recognizing the importance of restorative sleep at 35,000 feet, Finnair has upgraded its business class eye masks with plush, soft-touch fabrics and improved elastic bands for enhanced comfort. The included earplugs have been enhanced for superior noise reduction, ensuring a restful flight.
In a nod to sustainability, every amenity kit is wrapped in recyclable cardboard rather than plastic and features a QR code. Guests can scan this code with their mobile device to explore the story behind each Marimekko design—available in multiple languages and accessible on board via the Nordic Sky Wi-Fi portal.
Finnair’s commitment to environmental responsibility is evident throughout the product range. Toothbrushes are crafted from bio-based plastic derived from cornstarch, while earplug packaging now uses biodegradable wax paper. The new Nordic-inspired slippers are made entirely from recycled PET bottles and, like the amenity kits, are packaged with cardboard bands instead of plastic. These changes allow Finnair to cut plastic waste by nearly 4,500 kilograms annually.
For lesser-used items such as razors, socks, and combs, Finnair offers an on-demand service to reduce waste. Memory foam pillows and ultra-soft modacrylic-wool shawls are also available upon request, enhancing passenger comfort on long-haul journeys.
Each amenity kit contains natural, organic skincare from Swedish label L:A Bruket. Travelers will find aluminum tubes of almond-coconut lip cream and chamomile-lavender face moisturizer, curated to combat cabin dryness. L:A Bruket hand soap and hand cream are also featured in business class lavatories and Finnair’s premium lounges, with invigorating scents such as cucumber-mint, lemongrass, and grapefruit leaf to refresh and energize guests.
