Finnair reveals the completion of its flagship non-Schengen lounges

Finnair has officially opened its fully redesigned non-Schengen lounge complex at Helsinki Airport, featuring the much-anticipated Business Class Lounge and the Platinum Wing Lounge, which debuted earlier.

Embodying the essence of modern Nordic aesthetics, these lounges offer expansive, light-filled spaces, curated for discerning international travelers. Guests are welcomed with innovative seating areas and an upgraded culinary experience, all designed to reflect the airline’s commitment to elevated hospitality.

“With passenger volumes at Helsinki Airport reaching new records, the expanded lounge complex now accommodates increased demand with 200 additional seats,” shares Karim Al-Soufi, Vice President of Ground Experience at Finnair. “This project has been guided by extensive customer feedback, enabling us to create an environment that truly supports our guests’ diverse needs.”

David Kondo, Head of Customer Experience Product Design at Finnair, elaborates: “We meticulously studied how travelers interact with our lounges. The outcome is a series of distinct zones and seating options, empowering passengers to tailor their pre-flight experience.”

The reimagined lounge complex introduces a refined design language for Finnair, rooted in Nordic minimalism, natural textures, and a calming color palette. Every detail, from the sustainably sourced wood to the tactile fabrics, has been chosen to foster a sense of warmth and tranquility.

Signature furnishings include iconic pieces from leading Scandinavian designers, such as Eero Aarnio’s renowned ball chairs greeting guests at the entrance. These elements blend classic and contemporary Nordic style, ensuring the space remains elegant and enduring.

Both the Platinum Wing Lounge and Business Lounge are the result of a creative partnership between Helsinki-based KOKO3, London’s Tangerine, and Finnair’s in-house design specialists, delivering a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere.

Travelers are invited to indulge in a menu inspired by the best of Nordic gastronomy, with an emphasis on fresh, locally sourced ingredients. In collaboration with Finnish culinary leader Fazer, Finnair presents an open kitchen concept and a dedicated dining space for guests to savor seasonal specialties.

The rotating menu features three main courses—meat, fish, and plant-based—alongside six vibrant salads and an array of desserts, catering to a diverse international clientele.

An elegant full-service bar operates during peak periods, offering an expanded selection of premium spirits, fine wines, and artisanal coffees. Multiple beverage stations are conveniently located throughout the lounge, including a "quick coffee" bar near the entrance for guests on tight schedules.

The lounge is thoughtfully segmented into intimate zones, each designed to suit different travel styles and preferences. As guests move deeper into the lounge, they discover increasingly serene and private areas. Seating options range from convivial banquettes for groups to secluded pods for individual relaxation. Families will appreciate a dedicated zone equipped with games and activities for children.

Nearly every seat is equipped with charging ports, ensuring travelers remain connected. Private soundproof booths and printing services are available for those needing to work. Five contemporary shower suites, stocked with luxurious L:a Bruket amenities and reservable via touchscreen, allow guests to refresh before their journey.

The Business Lounge welcomes all Finnair Business Class passengers, Finnair Plus Gold members, and oneworld Sapphire cardholders departing from the non-Schengen area on flights marketed and operated by oneworld airlines.

Other travelers may purchase lounge access during off-peak hours, either online in advance or directly at the lounge reception. The combined facility accommodates up to 600 guests, offering ample space for comfort and privacy.
