Finnair will introduce ‘Economy Comfort’ on long-haul flights - a simpler ‘Premium Economy’

Finnair has officially introduced its ‘Economy Comfort’ experience—a curated upgrade set at the front of the economy cabin, offering travelers extra comfort at a competitive price point. While the industry has seen a growing demand for true premium economy, Finnair’s solution offers a balanced alternative for long-haul journeys.

Launched alongside the debut of Finnair’s state-of-the-art Airbus A350 fleet, Economy Comfort is now available on flagship routes to Shanghai, Bangkok, and Beijing, with full rollout across all intercontinental services.

What sets Economy Comfort apart is its generous seat pitch—passengers enjoy an additional four inches of legroom, totaling 35 inches (89 cm), a notable improvement over the standard 31–32 inches found in regular economy. While the seat width and 3-3-3 configuration remain consistent with the main cabin, this exclusive section features just 43 seats, ensuring a more tranquil atmosphere.

Travelers opting for Economy Comfort receive a suite of thoughtful enhancements: expedited boarding and priority disembarkation, a newly redesigned ergonomic headrest, superior noise-cancelling headphones, and an amenity kit with premium essentials for long-haul comfort. These touches reflect Finnair’s commitment to Scandinavian design and passenger well-being.

Rather than a standalone class, Economy Comfort functions as a highly desirable ‘priority seating’ option. Guests can purchase an upgrade during booking or check-in for a set fee, similar to the industry trend of selling seats with extra legroom or near emergency exits.

As of 2025, the supplementary fee for Economy Comfort varies by route and flight duration but typically ranges from €50 to €75 per segment. For a round-trip, travelers can expect to invest between €100 and €150 for the enhanced experience. This product is reserved exclusively for long-haul services and is not available on intra-European flights.

Finnair’s A350 cabins, updated with the latest in passenger comfort technology, have earned praise from Skytrax and travelers alike for their modern ambiance and thoughtful amenities.
