First refurbished SWISS Airbus A340 returns to revenue service

SWISS International Air Lines has relaunched its first fully modernized Airbus A340, featuring a complete cabin transformation across all classes. The inaugural commercial service took off from Zurich, with aircraft HB-JMH departing at 13:26 as flight LX 160 bound for Tokyo.

This marks the debut of SWISS’s five-jet Airbus A340 fleet’s comprehensive interior overhaul, with HB-JMH leading the way. The remaining four aircraft have now also received these extensive upgrades, ensuring a consistent, elevated experience fleet-wide. Enhancements include state-of-the-art First, Business, and Economy Class seating, a next-generation inflight entertainment system with high-speed Wi-Fi, redesigned galleys, and a sophisticated ambient lighting system. The result is a premium travel environment on par with SWISS’s acclaimed Boeing 777 cabins.

Alongside Tokyo, SWISS’s refurbished A340s are now operating to destinations including Boston, Johannesburg, Shanghai, and Tel Aviv. The airline’s intercontinental fleet comprises five Airbus A340s, 14 Airbus A330s, and ten Boeing 777-300ERs. In 2025, SWISS serves 24 long-haul destinations, connecting Zurich with major global cities.

The new First Class suites offer enhanced privacy and refined finishes.

Business Class now features fully lie-flat seats and direct aisle access for every passenger.
