Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence

Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence

Our search for the finest accommodation in Cairo led us to the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence—a sophisticated sanctuary at the heart of one of the world's most historic cities. With two exceptional Four Seasons properties in Cairo, the decision between the Nile Plaza and The First Residence hinges on priorities like location, room dimensions, and dining excellence. For our six-night sojourn, these factors made The First Residence our top choice.

While the interiors exude classic elegance with a touch of old-world charm, some design elements show their age. Yet, the ambiance remains inviting and refined.

Compared to other Four Seasons properties we've reviewed—such as the acclaimed London at Park Lane or the flagship at Ten Trinity Square—this hotel delivers a slightly more understated luxury. However, what it may lack in ultramodern glamour, it amply compensates for with exceptional cuisine, expansive accommodations, and an enviable setting.

Another compelling highlight is the outstanding value. Rates at The First Residence are notably more accessible than those at Four Seasons hotels in major global capitals, allowing us to upgrade to a lavish suite for what might only secure an entry-level room in cities like London. This made our Cairo experience both indulgent and comfortable.

Overall score: 8

Prime Location: Proximity to Cairo’s Landmarks

Strategically situated on the western bank of the Nile in Giza, Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence offers guests unparalleled access to the city's most iconic sites. Its location makes it among the closest luxury hotels to the legendary Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, an advantage for travelers eager to explore Egypt’s ancient wonders. The journey to the pyramids typically takes about 45 minutes by car, though traffic conditions can vary.

While the hotel is set slightly farther from downtown Cairo than its sister property, the Nile Plaza, the additional taxi or Uber ride is minimal—usually no more than 15 minutes longer. Ride-sharing services remain affordable and widely available in 2025.

Positioned between the Nile and the lush expanse of the Botanical Gardens and Cairo Zoo, the property’s locale is vibrant yet can be affected by city noise, especially due to its placement near a major thoroughfare. We recommend requesting a higher-floor room for panoramic pyramid vistas and a quieter atmosphere. Guests also benefit from direct access to the First Mall, a three-level luxury shopping destination featuring top international brands. For those seeking entertainment, a casino operated by an acclaimed Las Vegas brand is on-site, with a full suite of table games and slots.

Room & Suite Experience: Space, Views, and Amenities

We selected the City Suite—a spacious 115 m² (1,230 sq.ft.) retreat—offering elevated comfort, sweeping views, and luxurious appointments. In a city where luxury hotels often command premium prices, the suite’s size and amenities represent exceptional value. The layout features a generous living area, dedicated dining space, and a work desk that proved useful throughout our stay. Both the bedroom and living room open onto a private balcony, affording a breathtaking outlook toward the pyramids in the distance. Although traffic and seasonal weather limited our use of the balcony, the vista was always inspiring.

The suite includes two marble bathrooms, with the primary bath connected to the bedroom. It boasts a deep soaking tub and a separate rainfall shower, complemented by signature Four Seasons bath products and a thoughtful supply of lavender-scented bath salts. The signature Four Seasons bedding ensured restorative sleep each night. While daily ice delivery was available upon request, it was not proactively provided as we have experienced in other properties within the brand’s portfolio.

Service & Hospitality: Attentiveness and Professionalism

Throughout our stay, the service consistently met the high standards expected of the Four Seasons brand. The staff were warm and welcoming, providing thoughtful assistance at every turn. On occasion, we did need to follow up regarding replenishments for amenities such as Nespresso capsules, but these requests were always handled promptly and courteously. Breakfast service was a particular standout, with team members anticipating needs and delivering a memorable start to each day.

Design & Atmosphere: Classic Luxury Meets Boutique Charm

Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence evokes a sense of timeless grandeur, blending classic architecture with a welcoming, intimate ambiance. The property distinguishes itself from the larger Nile Plaza by offering a boutique-like atmosphere, enhanced by just 269 rooms—including 50 suites—each adorned in an opulent French Empire style. The interiors are resplendent with gilded accents and a palette of gold, green, and deep red, conveying a regal yet comforting vibe. While some decorative elements and the Lebanese restaurant Aura might feel slightly dated, the overall aesthetic remains harmonious and elegant.

The fourth-floor outdoor pool is a tranquil oasis, surrounded by plush loungers and private cabanas designed for relaxation or enjoying a traditional shisha experience.

Culinary Excellence: Dining at The First Residence

The gastronomic offerings at Four Seasons Hotel Cairo at The First Residence are truly exceptional, consistently ranking among Cairo’s finest. Our experiences at the Lebanese restaurant Aura stood out, with vibrant mezze and expertly prepared grilled meats and seafood that capture the essence of Middle Eastern cuisine. We frequently dined in both the restaurant and our suite, each time savoring authentic flavors and attentive service.

Breakfast is a highlight, featuring an expansive buffet of Egyptian specialties alongside an à la carte menu of international favorites. The staff go above and beyond, offering personalized dishes and even small tokens of appreciation, creating a warm and memorable start to each morning.

For those seeking variety, The First Boat—a floating venue moored beside the hotel—offers additional dining options, from innovative Asian fare to Brazilian-inspired dishes, as well as a lively nightclub. Though our schedule didn’t permit a visit this time, it remains on our list for a future return to Cairo and The First Residence.
