The Grand Brighton to revamp iconic façade

The Grand Brighton, the city’s legendary seafront hotel, has launched an extensive multi-million pound project to restore its renowned Victorian façade to its original splendour.

Since its debut in 1864, The Grand Brighton has epitomised luxury hospitality, hosting discerning travellers and high society on the vibrant British coastline. The hotel’s rich legacy includes surviving the infamous 1984 bombing, after which it was meticulously restored and has since remained a symbol of resilience and five-star excellence.

In 2025, The Grand embarks on its most transformative exterior works in over two decades, with the restoration meticulously planned in several phases. The project began earlier this spring, focusing initially on the East Wing, and marks the first comprehensive façade renewal since 2003.

Enhancements include state-of-the-art architectural lighting designed to highlight the building’s historic features, as well as the installation of bespoke windows and private balconies for all sea-view accommodations. The entire front elevation will be re-rendered, ensuring both aesthetic brilliance and structural integrity.

The Grand’s coveted sea-facing rooms offer sweeping views of Brighton’s iconic promenade, now set to be further elevated by these upgrades.

Working closely with Brighton & Hove City Council and heritage preservation organisations, The Grand is committed to safeguarding its architectural legacy while introducing modern comforts for today’s luxury guests, according to a recent press statement from the hotel.

Andrew Mosley, General Manager, shared: “Since we became an independent property in 2014, our ownership group has continued to invest in The Grand’s future. This façade restoration underscores our promise to deliver an unrivalled guest experience and to honour the hotel’s extraordinary heritage.”

He added, “The Grand Brighton is a beloved landmark with a storied past. This restoration will not only return its exterior to glory but also reinforce its status as a premier destination on the British seaside.”

The façade project is the latest milestone in a broader investment strategy that began following the hotel’s acquisition from the De Vere Group. Recent years have seen the revitalisation of the Victoria Terrace, Lounge, and Bar, as well as enhancements to the acclaimed GB1 seafood restaurant, reflecting an ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation.
