KLM opens new non-Schengen crown lounge

KLM’s flagship Non-Schengen Crown Lounge at Schiphol has been transformed into a world-class retreat for international travelers.

Spanning an impressive 6,800 square meters, the lounge now accommodates over 1,000 guests in a sophisticated, full-service environment. An additional 200 premium seats are reserved in the exclusive Blue Bar and Restaurant, where guests enjoy personalized service and a refined atmosphere.

The Non-Schengen Crown Lounge perfectly embodies KLM’s commitment to luxury, innovation, and guest-centric hospitality. Guests benefit from cutting-edge amenities, including seamless digital access, a self-guided Lounge Guide, and attentive staff ready to anticipate every need. Travelers can navigate the lounge, book amenities, check flight information, or request assistance directly through the digital concierge, ensuring a frictionless experience from arrival to departure.

Innovative Lounge Concept

Designed in collaboration with renowned Dutch architecture firm ‘concrete’, KLM’s lounge introduces a unique concept of five distinct “Dutch landscapes.” Each area is thoughtfully curated to cater to various moods and travel needs, whether for productivity, relaxation, gourmet dining, or entertainment. The five landscapes include:

  • Polder Landscape: This tranquil zone is ideal for both work and relaxation. The green-hued carpeting pays homage to the iconic Dutch fields, while a striking 110-meter LED wall mimics the changing Dutch sky, transitioning from sunrise to sunset for a calming effect.
  • City Landscape: Guests enjoy interactive culinary experiences with live chef stations, a signature Heineken Bar, and a specialty coffee bar staffed by expert baristas. The food and beverage program, curated by Vermaat, highlights fresh, seasonal ingredients and places a strong emphasis on sustainability by minimizing food waste.
  • The Sea: Designed for rejuvenation, this zone features 20 complimentary shower suites that can be reserved in advance via digital kiosks. For those seeking deeper rest, private sleep cabins offer a serene retreat for a supplementary charge—payable with Flying Blue miles or a fixed fee for three hours. In 2025, all amenities are managed via a digital allocation system utilizing QR codes for streamlined access.
  • Dutch Mountain Zone: This vibrant section invites guests to socialise or unwind with amenities such as a multimedia TV lounge and a DJ booth for special events. The décor pays tribute to Dutch design heritage and KLM’s storied legacy, creating a sense of place and history.
  • Sky: Located on the upper level, the Sky area delivers an exclusive, elevated experience. With panoramic views of Schiphol’s runways, guests can indulge in gourmet dishes and curated drinks at Blue by KLM. The restaurant’s menu—crafted by Michelin-starred chef Joris Bijdendijk of RIJKS®—offers a tailored culinary journey, accommodating individual preferences and timing for a truly bespoke dining experience.
