Long-anticipated upgrade in Addis Ababa

As a leading African carrier, Ethiopian Airlines continues to cement its dominance on intercontinental routes, connecting major European hubs such as London, Frankfurt, and Vienna with Addis Ababa—and onward to destinations across Africa and beyond. The long-awaited unveiling of Bole International Airport’s ultra-modern terminal now delivers a seamless, premium airport experience worthy of its flagship airline.

Renowned as the gateway for journeys to popular destinations like Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Africa, and Seychelles, Ethiopian Airlines’ network remains a top choice for discerning travelers. Until recently, Bole International Airport lagged behind in passenger amenities, often falling short of the airline’s acclaimed in-flight standards. With the completion of its new terminal, however, the airport finally matches the excellence travelers expect, offering a markedly enhanced transit and departure experience.

Business Class guests and Star Alliance Gold members are now welcomed into an expansive, redesigned Ethiopian Airlines lounge, spanning over 5,000 square meters. Here, travelers can indulge in amenities such as private shower suites, massage facilities, and a curated selection of gourmet cuisine and beverages. The signature Ethiopian coffee ceremony remains a highlight—an immersive opportunity to savor Ethiopia’s legendary coffee heritage in a refined setting.

Beyond the exclusive lounge, the new terminal boasts spacious gate areas, high-speed travellators, panoramic elevators, and an impressive array of luxury boutiques and service outlets. Three jet bridges now provide direct aircraft access, and ten additional remote stands have expanded the airport’s capacity to efficiently accommodate the 22 million annual travelers passing through Bole. Those originating or concluding their journeys in Addis Ababa benefit from enlarged check-in halls, featuring 60 staffed counters and 30 self-service kiosks for expedited processing. Enhanced border control facilities—with 32 arrival and 16 departure passport control counters—ensure swift movement through immigration, significantly reducing wait times.

As the first major international airport to debut a new terminal in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bole International Airport has prioritized traveler wellbeing. Advanced temperature screening technology and robust health protocols contribute to a safe and reassuring environment for all guests.
