Lufthansa to roll out broadband-quality internet on short-haul flights

Travelers flying within Europe on Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, and Eurowings can now experience seamless broadband internet connectivity at cruising altitude, transforming the short-haul inflight experience.

These leading European carriers have elevated their onboard technology, joining the ranks of British Airways and Norwegian in providing high-speed Wi-Fi on short-haul routes, a standard previously reserved for long-haul journeys.

Following comprehensive certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, Lufthansa Group has fully implemented satellite-based broadband on its A320 family aircraft, with both Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines completing their respective fleet retrofits.

As of 2025, the entire Lufthansa and Austrian Airlines narrow-body fleets, as well as Eurowings' Airbus aircraft, are equipped with state-of-the-art internet systems, ensuring fast and reliable access for all passengers, whether for business or leisure.

Guests may select from three tailored FlyNet packages: FlyNet Message, ideal for messaging and emails; FlyNet Surf, designed for full web browsing capabilities; and FlyNet Stream, which supports video streaming and high-bandwidth applications. Pricing starts at €3 for messaging, €7 for web browsing, and €12 for streaming, reflecting competitive rates in today’s European aviation market.
