Lufthansa has strategically positioned ten state-of-the-art Airbus A350-900 aircraft at its Munich hub, reinforcing the airline’s commitment to premium long-haul travel from southern Germany.
The Airbus A350-900, celebrated for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, now forms the backbone of Lufthansa’s intercontinental operations out of Munich, replacing the older A340-600 models as part of the airline’s ongoing sustainability and modernization initiatives.
Key long-haul routes such as Delhi and Boston were among the first to welcome the A350-900, offering guests a refined onboard experience across three meticulously designed cabins: 48 seats in Business Class, 21 in Premium Economy, and 224 in Economy Class.
According to Thomas Winkelmann, CEO of the Lufthansa Hub Munich, “Introducing the A350-900 to Munich enables us to offer our guests the most advanced travel experience while actively reducing our environmental impact and noise emissions.”
Lufthansa’s total order for the Airbus A350-900 stands at 25, with the allocation of the remaining aircraft now finalized across both Munich and Frankfurt, reflecting the airline’s focus on fleet harmonization and network flexibility. As of summer 2025, Munich’s long-haul fleet features a modern mix of A350-900, A330-300, and a reduced number of A340-600 aircraft, aligning with Lufthansa’s decarbonization targets.
