Finnair continues to redefine the inflight experience in 2025, rolling out refined service concepts across both short-haul and long-haul routes. The introduction of the ‘Sky Bistro’ for European Economy Class passengers and a host of enhancements for long-haul travelers reflect the airline’s commitment to Scandinavian hospitality and design. We sat down with Maarit Keränen, Finnair’s Head of Service Concept, who oversees all aspects of onboard service, to discuss these exciting developments.
Complimentary Sparkling Wine and Enhanced Snack Selection in Economy on Long-Haul Flights
In a move that elevates the Economy Class journey, Finnair now offers complimentary sparkling wine—specifically, a crisp Italian Prosecco—on all long-haul flights in Economy. Previously, passengers could purchase champagne, but this new inclusion brings a touch of celebration to every seat. Classic choices like beer, red, and white wine remain available at no extra charge.
Additionally, Finnair has introduced a mid-flight snack service on long-haul itineraries, included in the fare. Depending on the route and time of day, guests may enjoy options such as artisanal sandwiches or warming noodle bowls, ensuring comfort and nourishment throughout the flight.
Wine service in Economy has also been refined: wines are now poured from full-sized bottles rather than miniatures, a decision that enhances elegance while improving onboard efficiency and sustainability.
Looking ahead, Economy Class travelers can anticipate a refreshed menu launching in early 2025, featuring globally inspired, locally sourced meals designed for both taste and wellness at altitude.
Sky Bistro: A New Standard for European Economy Service
On European routes, the newly launched ‘Sky Bistro’ introduces a contemporary café-style service. The traditional snack tray on flights over two hours has been replaced by a curated bistro cart, offering passengers the flexibility to pre-order gourmet items or select from a rotating selection of fresh sandwiches, salads, and hot dishes onboard.
Ordering from the Sky Bistro Menu
Guests can browse and pre-purchase from the extensive Sky Bistro menu online via the Finnair website. A select range is also available for purchase inflight, including a weekly featured sandwich among a rotating list of nine signature options.
Finnair remains committed to complimentary refreshments; coffee, tea, water, and the beloved Finnish blueberry juice are always available at no cost in Economy Class.

Business Class: Curated Menus and Bespoke Beverage Program
Business Class passengers will notice a reimagined dining experience, with new menus crafted in collaboration with acclaimed Finnish chefs and an updated cocktail selection. On long-haul flights, Finnair has introduced a flexible ‘dine on demand’ model, allowing travelers to choose when they wish to enjoy their meal—ideal for those seeking tailored rest and productivity schedules.
Finnair has also refreshed its wine and beverage program, recently transitioning from Joseph Perrier to the award-winning Nicolas Feuillatte champagne, under the guidance of a newly appointed Beverage Manager. This specialist oversees not only Business Class selections but also the enhanced Economy wine program and complimentary sparkling wine initiative.
Within Europe, Business Class continues to feature hot meals on longer flights, and passenger satisfaction remains high according to recent internal surveys. No changes are planned to the current dual-course offering or the structure of European Business Class, as maintaining consistency for connecting travelers to Asia is a strategic priority.
Marimekko Collaboration: Finnish Design Onboard
Finnair’s ongoing partnership with iconic design house Marimekko brings distinctive Finnish artistry to the skies. The collaboration is showcased not only in the livery of select aircraft, such as the Airbus A350 featuring Maija Isola’s classic floral motif, but also in the onboard environment through exclusive Marimekko porcelain and textiles.
The rollout of the full Marimekko tableware series is nearly complete, with all new porcelain expected to be in service fleetwide by mid-2025. Until then, passengers can catch a glimpse of these elegant pieces in select cabins.

Glassware in Business Class: Balancing Form and Function
We inquired about the choice of wine glasses in Business Class. Currently, Finnair utilizes two types of Iittala glasses from the celebrated Ultima Thule collection—one tall glass for wine and champagne, and a smaller vessel for liqueurs. While the original Ultima Thule range does not include a classic wine glass with a stable base, these designs were selected for practicality in the dynamic aircraft environment. Discussions are ongoing about potentially introducing additional glassware options to further elevate the inflight experience, but a final decision has yet to be reached.
