Lufthansa has officially raised the bar in premium travel
by unveiling exclusive renderings
of its state-of-the-art Business Class, set to debut on its advanced Boeing 777-9 fleet. While these aircraft will host between 45 and 60 Business Class guests, Lufthansa has opted not to include a First Class cabin on these jets.
The precise seating arrangement for Lufthansa’s 777-9s has been refined for maximum guest satisfaction. The airline has adopted a staggered 1-2-1 and 1-1-1 seat configuration, allowing every traveler direct aisle access—a hallmark of contemporary premium cabins.
Lufthansa's next-generation Business Class on the B777-9
Lufthansa’s strategic focus is clear: invest in a Business Class experience that rivals traditional First Class, particularly on the 777-9. Each fully-flat seat, stretching up to 220 cm (86.6 inches), delivers an exceptional sleep environment, engineered for optimal rest at altitude.
Innovative ergonomic design ensures that the seat’s backrest adapts to side-sleepers, maintaining spinal alignment and supporting natural, restful sleep. This attention to detail is the result of extensive customer feedback and sleep science research.
Lufthansa only transitioned to fully-flat beds in 2013, following in the footsteps of industry pioneers like British Airways. This time, however, Lufthansa has collaborated with over 500 frequent flyers during the development phase, prioritizing privacy, sleep quality, and direct aisle access—features consistently cited as essential by discerning travelers.

With the Boeing 777-9’s notably wider fuselage, Lufthansa has reimagined the Business Class environment to maximize personal space, privacy, and storage. Each seat offers generous surfaces and compartments, catering to the needs of business and leisure travelers alike.
The innovative layout introduces a choice of personalized seating options: guests can select an extra-long bed for sleeping or opt for a seat with expanded desk space for work and productivity.
With such a flexible, spacious, and technologically advanced Business Class, Lufthansa is making a confident statement that First Class is no longer essential on these routes. For travelers who value privacy, comfort, and innovation, this redefined Business Class may well exceed expectations.
