Norwegian has officially expanded its fleet with the arrival of its first Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, marking a significant milestone for the airline’s premium long-haul ambitions.

“Taking delivery of our first 787-9 Dreamliner ushers in a new chapter for Norwegian, reinforcing our ongoing commitment to international growth and providing travelers with world-class comfort at competitive fares,” shared Norwegian CEO Bjørn Kjos. “This advanced aircraft enhances our operational efficiency, reduces fuel burn, and supports our sustainability goals.”

The inaugural Dreamliner, distinguished by the iconic image of Swedish film legend Greta Garbo on its tailfin, embarked on its maiden commercial service from Oslo to Orlando. The aircraft is also scheduled for regular operations on routes connecting Oslo and London Gatwick, ensuring seamless connectivity between Scandinavia, the UK, and key long-haul destinations.

Norwegian’s Dreamliner fleet now includes eight 787-8s, complemented by the latest 787-9s, which offer greater range and passenger capacity. These next-generation jets enable Norwegian to launch new direct routes across North America, South America, and Southeast Asia, responding to evolving traveler demand in 2025.

This new Boeing 787-9 is leased through a strategic partnership with MG Aviation, reflecting Norwegian’s asset-light approach to expansion.

Monty Oliver, Vice President of European Sales at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, commented: “We are delighted to deliver the first 787-9 to Norwegian and MG Aviation. The 787-9 sets the benchmark for passenger well-being, operational efficiency, and cargo capabilities—making it an invaluable asset for innovative carriers.”
