Following a meticulous, multi-year restoration, the Pulitzer Amsterdam has reemerged as one of the city’s most captivating luxury hotels, blending historic Dutch charm with contemporary sophistication.
Occupying a network of 25 interlinked canal houses dating back four centuries, the Pulitzer Amsterdam sits at the heart of the UNESCO-listed canal belt. The recent transformation has unveiled a host of spectacular new features, including a striking entrance, thoughtfully redesigned lobby, tranquil inner gardens, a state-of-the-art two-level fitness center, and a total of 225 refined guest rooms and suites.
The grand new entryway, the first significant architectural addition to the canals since their UNESCO designation, ushers guests into a lobby that artfully balances whimsical Dutch heritage and modern luxury. Expect vintage Persian carpets, curated antiques, and a rotating selection of classic and contemporary artworks. Adjacent, a boutique flower shop offers vibrant arrangements—a nod to the Netherlands’ floral tradition—while a literary-themed library celebrates Pulitzer Prize-winning works, underscoring the hotel’s storied legacy.
Under the creative direction of Jacu Strauss, the design team has honored the buildings’ original character, infusing each space with a playful yet elegant aesthetic. Every room is distinct, featuring complimentary high-speed WiFi, a classic rotary telephone, Le Labo bath products, a bespoke minibar complete with cocktail tools, and even a bike maintenance kit—reflecting Amsterdam’s cycling culture.
The collection’s four new Collector’s Suites are each a visual feast, with imaginative touches like a towering archway of books, an entire wall adorned with vintage trumpets, and a modern reinterpretation of The Last Supper. Each suite boasts private canal-side entrances and panoramic views. For couples, the Pulitzer’s Suite offers an indulgent escape with a freestanding soaking tub, super king-sized bed, and romantic garden vistas.
At the heart of the property lies its serene inner gardens—a spacious, secluded retreat that feels miles away from the city bustle. Designed by Copijn, renowned Dutch landscape architects, these gardens offer a relaxed, park-like ambiance with lush plantings and striking sculptures. The gardens flow into Pause at Pulitzer, the hotel’s inviting all-day café, where guests can enjoy artisanal coffee, light bites, and an idyllic atmosphere for relaxation or informal meetings.
The hotel’s culinary centerpiece, Jansz., artfully fuses Amsterdam’s rich history with a contemporary approach, serving modern classics prepared from seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Next door, Pulitzer’s Bar remains a beloved destination for both guests and locals, with its chic yet cozy design and a cocktail program that reinvents timeless recipes with modern flair.
For private events, Pulitzer Amsterdam presents nine distinctive venues. The Garden Room, a verdant sanctuary, comfortably hosts up to 150 guests for weddings and corporate gatherings, while the opulent Saxenburg Room—adorned with 18th-century art and an original Louis XV mantelpiece from 1750—accommodates up to 75 for more intimate occasions.
