Qatar Airways touches down in Sydney

Qatar Airways has officially inaugurated daily direct flights between Doha and Sydney, solidifying its position as a leading global carrier and enhancing luxury travel options to Australia.

Distinguished guests, including prominent Qatari officials led by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, arrived on the inaugural flight and were warmly greeted by senior Australian dignitaries, including Sydney Airport’s Managing Director and CEO, Ms. Kerrie Mather.

The airline’s Boeing 777-300 made a striking entrance, soaring above iconic Sydney landmarks such as the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, marking a significant step in Qatar Airways’ Australian expansion.

Now operating daily, the Doha–Sydney route leverages the advanced comfort and technology of the Boeing 777-300, renowned for its award-winning Qsuite business class and exceptional passenger experience.

In his remarks, H.E. Mr. Al Baker shared: “Arriving in Sydney is a pivotal moment for Qatar Airways and for Australian travelers. Our guests departing Sydney can now seamlessly access over 170 destinations worldwide through our world-class hub in Doha.”

He added: “We deeply appreciate the partnership with Sydney Airport and city leaders, and we are committed to nurturing these relationships as we continue to elevate the travel experience for Australians and global visitors alike.”

During the ceremony, Ms. Kerrie Mather commented: “It’s a privilege to welcome Qatar Airways to Sydney Airport. Their new daily service is set to increase annual passenger capacity by 245,000 seats, support the creation of approximately 3,000 new jobs, and inject more than AUD $240 million into the Australian economy.”

Qatar Airways has maintained a robust presence in Australia since 2009, initially launching flights to Melbourne and later extending its network to Perth. The addition of Sydney further solidifies its commitment to the Australian market, offering travelers unparalleled connectivity and service.

With breathtaking views of Sydney’s skyline during descent, the new route promises both business and leisure travelers an elevated, seamless journey to and from one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
