Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen opens new Arne Jacobsen room, room 506

When the iconic SAS Royal Hotel—now known as the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel—opened in 1960, it set a new global standard as the world’s first design-centric hotel. Legendary Danish architect and designer Arne Jacobsen masterminded both the building and its interiors, making the property a pilgrimage site for design aficionados. Room 606, preserved in its original mid-century modern splendor, has long been a must-stay for connoisseurs. In 2025, the hotel has elevated its commitment to design heritage by unveiling a second signature suite: Room 506, created in partnership with acclaimed Spanish designer Jaime Hayon.

This exclusive suite offers guests the rare opportunity to experience the ‘Drop Chair’—a visionary piece conceived by Jacobsen in 1960, but only brought into production decades later. Hayon’s contemporary touches seamlessly blend with Jacobsen’s timeless aesthetic, resulting in a space that honors Danish design heritage while embracing modern luxury. The room’s curated furnishings, including Hayon’s distinctive Analog table, pay tribute to Jacobsen’s legacy while offering a fresh, sophisticated ambiance for the discerning traveler.

"Arne Jacobsen’s vision has profoundly influenced my creative journey. To reinterpret his Drop Chair and collaborate on Room 506 within Copenhagen’s legendary design hotel is both an honor and a responsibility," shares Jaime Hayon. "This project allowed me to immerse myself in Jacobsen’s world while adding my own perspective to a living piece of design history. I am proud to help evolve his legacy within these walls."

Like the famed Room 606, Room 506 is open for reservations, inviting guests to immerse themselves in a unique blend of classic and contemporary Scandinavian design.
