Royal Air Maroc to join oneworld

Royal Air Maroc has officially become a member of the oneworld alliance, marking a significant milestone for both the airline and the African continent. As of today, Morocco’s national carrier stands alongside the world’s most prestigious airlines, fulfilling a long-anticipated expansion for oneworld.

Following a comprehensive integration process, Royal Air Maroc and its regional subsidiary, Royal Air Maroc Express, now provide seamless connectivity and exclusive privileges for discerning travelers worldwide. Both entities are fully integrated, enabling passengers to access the full suite of oneworld benefits, including priority services, streamlined transfers, and reciprocal frequent flyer rewards.

Members of the Safar Flyer program, exceeding one million loyal travelers, can now accumulate and redeem miles across all oneworld partner airlines. Elite tier members enjoy access to over 650 airport lounges globally, further enhancing the premium travel experience.

Until the alliance partnership was finalized, Royal Air Maroc operated independently, maintaining its renowned service standards and growing international footprint.

Historically, while Comair in Southern Africa (operating as a British Airways franchisee) has been an affiliate within oneworld since the alliance’s inception in 1999, Royal Air Maroc now stands as the very first full-fledged African member. This strategic move fills a longstanding gap—Africa was previously the only continent (apart from Antarctica) without a full oneworld member airline.

This is also the first time since 2012 that oneworld has welcomed a new full member. Although Fiji Airways joined as a oneworld connect partner, Royal Air Maroc’s entry represents a pivotal expansion of the alliance’s global reach.

Recognized as Africa’s largest formerly unaffiliated airline, Royal Air Maroc has rapidly evolved into a global player, underpinned by a robust modernization strategy and a commitment to service excellence. The airline is now widely regarded as a leader in both scale and quality across the continent.

Royal Air Maroc currently operates a modern fleet of 55 aircraft, having transported 7.3 million passengers in the past year. Its extensive network links Casablanca to 94 destinations in 49 countries across Africa, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas—including key oneworld hubs such as Doha, London Heathrow, Madrid, Moscow Domodedovo, New York JFK, and São Paulo.

With this integration, oneworld’s network expands by 34 new cities and 21 additional countries, bringing the alliance’s total coverage to 1,069 airports in 178 countries and territories.

Royal Air Maroc’s five-year strategic roadmap aims to further increase its fleet and passenger numbers, targeting 13 million travelers annually and a network of 121 destinations in 68 countries. This ambitious growth will introduce an extra 15 destinations and nine countries, ultimately connecting oneworld travelers to 1,084 airports in 187 countries and territories.

Currently, three established oneworld members—British Airways, Iberia, and Qatar Airways—serve Morocco’s key cities: Casablanca, Marrakech, and Tangier, offering travelers even more choice and flexibility.
