Santé! Cathay Pacific First Class cellar welcomes Château Montrose

Exceptional Bordeaux vintages now poured on select Cathay Pacific First Class journeys.

Cathay Pacific has further enhanced its celebrated First Class wine selection through an exclusive collaboration with Château Montrose, a distinguished Bordeaux Second Growth. This partnership was officially celebrated at an extraordinary wine dinner in Hong Kong, where guests experienced a thoughtfully curated tasting menu expertly paired with multiple Château Montrose vintages. Beginning this season, travelers in First Class on flights connecting Hong Kong with London, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, and San Francisco can enjoy the legendary 2005 vintage from Château Montrose, available on a rotating schedule across these flagship routes.

The introduction of Château Montrose follows Cathay Pacific’s ongoing commitment to curating one of the world’s most distinguished inflight cellars. Recent years have seen the airline add revered Grandes Marques Champagnes to its First Class offering, including Krug 2004, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2006, Champagne Deutz - William Deutz Cuvée 2006, and Piper-Heidsieck Rare Millésime 2002, ensuring an unparalleled beverage experience in the skies.

Vivian Lo, Cathay Pacific’s General Manager Customer Experience and Design, commented: “Delivering a world-class inflight dining and wine experience is central to our First Class philosophy. With the addition of Château Montrose, alongside iconic labels such as Château Lynch-Bages and Château Branaire-Ducru, we continue to set the standard for luxury travel.”

Château Montrose CEO Hervé Berland shared, “This partnership with Cathay Pacific is a testament to our shared pursuit of excellence. Having our 2005 vintage featured in First Class allows us to reach discerning wine lovers on a global stage. We look forward to deepening this relationship and presenting more of our finest vintages to Cathay Pacific’s esteemed guests.”

Established in 1778, Château Montrose is situated just north of Pauillac in the St. Estèphe appellation, renowned for its gravel-rich terroir overlooking the Gironde. As one of only two St. Estèphe properties granted Second Growth status in the historic 1855 classification, the estate is celebrated for producing wines of remarkable structure, complexity, and longevity.

The 2005 Château Montrose stands out for its elegance and versatility. Its complex bouquet and robust palate complement a range of dishes, from classic red meats and game to rich poultry and even hearty fish preparations. It also pairs beautifully with Asian cuisine, pasta, and an assortment of aged, full-flavored cheeses.

Roy Moorfield, an internationally recognized wine critic and a longstanding member of Cathay Pacific’s wine panel, describes the 2005 vintage as “a benchmark for Bordeaux—deep in color, layered with concentrated dark fruit, and perfectly integrated tannins that deliver a lingering, harmonious finish.”
